Posted April 17, 200619 yr Well talk has gone on alot about weighing budgies for health etc. I have not ever weighed my birds as I can tell from picking them up if they are overweight or not - yes I can! and any breeder can!! But, just for the sake of information being available for everyone - and myself if I change my mind - what is the best type of weighing machine to use for weighing birds (not just budgies)? My kitchen scales go up in 20g increments so obviously are not suitable.
April 17, 200619 yr I use mum's weight watchers scales which i think go up in 1 gram thingy's so they're good.
April 17, 200619 yr Yep, agree with Lin. I have a digital kitchen scales which has a 3kg limit, and an increment of 1g. Perfect for the tiny little budgies... and I use that as well to weigh my cockatoo to make sure he's on the right track as well with his weight. I got mine from Kmart. They range from $25 up to the really expensive ones.. :ausb: Mine cost about $35.
April 17, 200619 yr I have a postal scale that goes up in grams or ounces. That is what I used to weigh Beka.
April 17, 200619 yr Anything that measures in 1 gram increments or less. I'll keep my mouth shut about weighing budgies by hand.
April 18, 200619 yr i feel like a poop. i've never seen a scale in k-mart/walmart, i bought mine from an industrial kitchen supply store $120 and it goes up in .001g increments up to 2kgs, poop weights .10g :ausb: (Laughing out loud), i feel safer with the smaller numbers, in the mornings before breaky, most othe them are within .25 of their normal rate, but thinking about it 25$ is a little bit more intelligent.
April 24, 200619 yr Author Never let it be said that this ole girl isn't open to new idea's. Today I bought a set of digital scales. $30 from Kmart & it goes up in 1g increments. I did testing on it when I got it home to ensure it is accurate & it is! I decided that (of course) Boris would be the first live subject. She fought me like anything getting her on it & keeping her on it! But, of course being a bird she is totally weird and as soon as I gave up and removed my hands she sat still on it looking at me as if to say "all you had to do was ask!" I repeated the process 3 times & obtained the same results each time.
