my female went in the nest box and was in there for hours comin out and goin back in. and i got a question my male bird has mated with my female at least twice(that i have seen) but can it be that he is to young that he doesnt have enough sperm to fertilize the eggs?

Both birds should be at least 12 months old, the male may not be sexually developed enough to fertilize the eggs although I find the main problem they have is with "balance and technique" at a young age :) If they have only mated twice that you have seen I would just give it time!

Generally they will mate at least a dozen times before each egg is laid. Sometimes it is just for 'fun' other times it is for producing babies. Give it time.

I have a boy 5-6 months old who successfully fertilised an egg.

Male ( and females) can breed when around the 6 month mark, BUT are not mentally ready for it yet. Ther are like human teenages at that age.

So I don't think that is your problem. Give them some time remember it takes around 9 days for the first egg to arrive.
