Posted April 11, 200619 yr Hello again, I am reading a lot about what to feed my budgie. Even that is a bit confusing. I would appreciate any advice as to what brands I should buy and what to feed. I looked in the pet store and there are tons of varieties of everything. I have no idea what products I should be getting or what brands are the best. I have a bag of seeds and some pellets that I am mixing in the food dish. I keep trying different veggies and fruit, but so far she isn't taking any. She has been with me for only two days though. Thank you all again for your help. Dayle
April 11, 200619 yr It is very confusing, is't it? One good thing about living where I do is that we don't have a choice! We don't get all the varieties that other places do. Any good quality brand will do. Check the ingredients, and make sure there aren't a huge amount of artificial chemicals in the product. And, buy from a place that is busy, so you know you are buying fresh products. It can take months for them to try fresh foods. It really is worth the effort of perservering though, as it will make for a much healthier bird. A little bit every day. You can try coating broccoli etc with seed, popping some greens in their bath water. Some birds like it clipped to the side of the cage, others like it in a dish. Always make sure it is smaller than their head. Some like their food grated or diced, but others like a small chunk. Helpful, isn't it? Budgies are just difficult little tykes, I'm sure you will work yours out!
April 11, 200619 yr Has anyone tried beak appetite? I was just looking at a site that carried it and I thought maybe I would try it. Also the wheatgrass, I think that's what they called it looked good. Does anyone think I should order it?
April 11, 200619 yr Yep, some people on here have had great success with both those products! Wish we had stuff like that here!

Thank you all again for your help. Dayle My new babies have been with me less than a week. I have been putting broccoli in every day and I saw one of them nibbling this morning for the first time. I clip mine to the side of the cage. I have a variety of things in the cbig age for the other 8 birds - regular seed, premium seed, pellets, egg food, veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, romaine), and sometimes boiled egg. I hope that there is something for everyone. Every once in awhile I give them a treat of millet, but it is less than once a month. Edited April 11, 200619 yr by Shawna
April 11, 200619 yr If I could I would get Harrison's pellets. they are a bit on the pricey side, but they are currently the best pellets out for parrots and parakeets. I've heard good things about beak appetit as well. Good luck with finding the right stuff for your birdies.
April 11, 200619 yr its also worth looking at the seed before you buy it. i bought some from a local petshop and it looked fine, but after a couple of days use, i was filling their feeders and noticed some small black things in the seed. a close look at it and the black bits were some sort of small beatle. always worth checking if the shop keeper gets funny buy from somewhere else. as for broccoli mine love it, and apple.
