Safe Chemicals For The Rest Of The House

I'm wondering if there is a safe chemical for the rest of the house, i live with my mother and she's a bit of a neat freak. i'm having a down hill battle with the cleaning chemicals, she hates the smell of bleach, and vinegar, so she's using a lysol type cleaner, which i've diluted the Poop out of but i can still smell the cleaner, and i'm worried about the bubs, is there bird friendly cleaner for the rest of the house, walls floors ect... whenever she pulls out the cleaning solutions all the doors and windows get opened, all the fans are going and i sit in the bird room worried... Help! and is lavander oil/extract in a spray bottle watered down misted in the house okay for the fids? i remember reading something about certain extracts being okay...

 Lovey is the person you must speak to, she knows all about chemicals, you can e-mail her or she will probably be on the website tomorrow. :P

Lovey, this would be a great article to get pinned, if you wouldn't mind? I'd love to know some safe ways to clean as well!

We have these no chemical cleaning cloths which are supposed to work just as well as chemicals. We use those on surfaces in the room with the birdies. :fear

I think it is first important to remember that everything around us has chemicals it, even the water we drink. So when we talk about chemicals not all are unsafe. Science and nature together is a good balance. Remember not everything is nature is safe for us or our birds.

I personally have a membership to a store that offers products that are safer for your home their products are not manufactured with ingredients such as lye, bleach, formaldehyde (this is a big one because it is a cheap perservative), or any other caustic ingredients.

You have to remember that though baking soda, vinegar and water are good alternatives they don't disinfect and kill germs.

Just a note on Lysol (I used it all the time - no more) - this is not only harmful for humans but toxic to birds

Here site I found that lists dangerous chemicals in the home for birds (interesting to find bleach & lye - people use it all the time by simply diluting it) http://www.sanctuariusebr.org/poisons.htm

I encourage you to watch this video (it is very short) it is awesome - I love it because it shows us by NOT promoting any brand of products how harmful things are in our homes - in fact I have the full video.

http://rmbarry.com/audio_video/media/TBWM_preview_dsl.html It talks about how kids are exposed now think if it is harmful for kids it is just as harmful for our little friends.

You know I will probably get objections back, on how I have used this all the time, nothing has happened to my birds etc... That is okay, you use what you use and if it works for you great :), many of us though continue to wonder WHY cancer, tumors, asthma, ADD etc..are so prevelant though the answer really right in front of our face but most of us are so stuck in our ways or have said my parents used it my their parents used it nothing happened. But it really not a short term it is a long term affect over the years of supply demand and our industry.

As for pinning something, I don't think there is anything you can pin there is so much information out there :hap:. I wish it was black and white.
