Hi everyone,

 

I bought Kiwi about two months ago, he was estimated 6-8 months when I bought him. I quarantined him for the first month, and he seemed to be bonding to me, willingly going on my finger and sometimes flying out of his cage to land on my shoulder. He also seems happy and chirps when I take him out of his cage.

 

I recently introduced him to Piccolo (I bought Kiwi as a replacement for Piccolo's mate who died), but Piccolo didn't take to him very well and kept trying to peck him. He kept trying to feed her but doesn't accept and reacts by pecking, so I keep them in separate cages.

 

My question is, would it be impossible to Kiwi to bond to me with another bird around? He sees Piccolo all the time and they chirp to each other but I usually have their interaction through bars due to Piccolo's meaness. Since he has met Piccolo he does seem less interested in me but he will still go on my finger and sit on my shoulder.

Can you spend time with Kiwi in a completely different room to Piccolo? If you were to do that everyday i would think that your bond would become stronger.
