Posted April 8, 200619 yr Only found out they had babies by accident. I knew they had eggs but didn't know they had hatched. They have 3 babies. Mum is a lacewing yellow & dad is a Lutino. Can anyone tell me what the chances of getting lacewing males out of these babies? These are the parents: 3 Babies: Edited May 8, 200619 yr by karen
April 8, 200619 yr Seven eggs, Karen ?? including the hatched ones ? Edited April 8, 200619 yr by budgiebird
April 8, 200619 yr Author 8 actually, the babies are leaning on one. The hen is rather small - I am keeping a close eye on her & this is her first clutch.
April 8, 200619 yr so cute. The only way to get lacwing males is if he is split ofr cinnamon. ( the only way for any to show up lacewing)
April 8, 200619 yr Author Okay, so if any males are born, then they'll be split to lacewing right? Then all I have to do is mate any males from this pairing to a lutino or albino hen and I should get lacewing males? Am I right? - this hen is the only good lacewing I have left so it has to be a lutino or an albino.
April 8, 200619 yr the first bit is right the males will be split but if not matched to another lacewing hen they will only have female offspring lacewings with a normal ino.
April 8, 200619 yr Author Darn it!!! Does it matter how visual the lacewing is? I have 2 lacewing white hen's that are only very lightly visual lacewing.
April 8, 200619 yr I'm not sure Karen. I would try them and find out if your are after lacewing males.
April 12, 200619 yr Author Well I had removed the other 4 eggs as I didn't want to stress mum out being her first time and all. I am pleased to announce that 2 of the other eggs I fostered out have hatched & the foster mum & dad are happily looking after and protecting them from the big bad monster (me).
April 12, 200619 yr Look at those chicks!! I'm glad to hear two others have hatched and with good fosters parents. Yes pics please!!!!
April 14, 200619 yr Author I took these pictures today. Technically they hve 6 babies as 2 others are with foster parents (which I will show) Babies with original parents: Foster parents - (parents of Daz' bird Jazz and many other lovely blues) they really care for their young: Fostered babies: .
April 15, 200619 yr Author The foster mum is a traditional Albino - and a gorgeous and loving mum! She just gets involved in rearing and doesn't bathe until after the babies have fledged.
April 15, 200619 yr They are all gorgeous! It is always good to see parents/foster parents doing a good job! Karen you are very organised good on you!
April 15, 200619 yr Author Nah Daz, dad is a light (?) green spangle. A handsome devil indeed! and very loyal to his partner!
April 15, 200619 yr Author Don't know mate, they were both bought birds. But most of their offspring have been similar to Jazz & one baby I have had trouble identifying with 100% certainty.
April 22, 200619 yr I think mom could be 'carrying' a dominant pied gene. Very cute Karen any sign of Cinnamons in this lot?
April 22, 200619 yr Author Not yet Jen, only the eldest has coloured up enough - although all babies look like they are going to have white tails & white flights, don't know about the rest of the wings yet.
