I am looking into building/buying a small aviary. I'm still undecided whether it would be indoor or outdoor. I'm just trying to determine a good size right now. If I have something like 8' L x 6' W x 5 1/2' H, how many birds would be comfortable (i.e. not at all crowded) in something this size?

it is not the size of the aviary but the space on the perchs there is a formula to work it out ill try and find it for you

i cant seem to find it but i will keep looking but from memory i think it is 4 to 6 inches per bird but two perches per bird so a total of 8 to 12 inches per bird

So it may really depend upon how it is planted, and the total perching area of whatever type perches are placed in it? I was hoping it would be big enough for my crew plus a few more, but it seems it would reach capacity pretty quickly.

I've never heard about that before but now that I read it it akes lots os sense. The poor birdoies don't fly all day, they sit about alot so they will want lots os space to rest

 

I'll keep this in mind if i ever find a place to build an aviary myself
