Well Marine and Tootie are antsy to start the next round ( which of cuase i'm not allowing but they don't seem to listen to me.) Marine is getting a bit nasty to Echo, only him for some reason is the big target :ausb: he hates any of them on his 'mating' branch. And just now when he was flirting with Tootie he didn't even like him on the ground. When Echo tried to get back in the box Tootie wouldn't let him.

So I now have to work out which would be the best way to go.

1- Remove Tootie from the cage. I think Marine is now feeding all the babies. But what will Marine do once his lvoe is taken away? Will he get really mad with the young ones?

2- Remove Marine. But will Tootie continue feeding the ones that need some or start attacking them all out or in the box?

3- Remove the older chicks. I'm not 100% sure they they are eating on their own yet.

:) It's nothing major yet, Echo give back almost all he gets, but I don't want it getting out of hand here.

I think it would be safe and best to remove your female. Dad's know what their job is most of the time and with her away from him, he will most likely just get on with it. The separation might mean they will call out to each other, but I think he will still feed the babies. My babies at 4-5 weeks are mostly feeding themselves anyway, but like the comfort of having a feed from Mum and Dad. Even though they call out to be fed, they don't seem to need it, as they just fossick around and feed themselves if there is no other option. My newest ones straight out of the nest are eating corn and greens and seed. They only call to be fed if they find themselves right next to Mum or Dad. If exploring the cage, they just feed themselves.

:) Not that worried with Echo and Squeaker, but Suttle only have one little adventure out of the box today and it was by falling head first into the ground from the nest hole  I was thinking of removing Tootie and if Marine start to take it out on the bubs then try plan 3.

Remove Tootie and watch for awhile. If babies are all being fed by Marine....it'll be okay. You can always put Tootie back in for the bedtime settle down. At night Marine should leave her to tend to those in the nest and not bother her. But you may have to get up early to remove her again before he gets other ideas. I really think you will be fine leaving Dad to feed the babies though. Even those in the nest will reach out and squawk to be fed by Dad, so they should all be tended to quite well. Just watch and see. I have two still in the nest with Radar and Hotlips and I may be removing Mum to the main aviary for a break to stop another clutch in that pairing. Same situation as you really with Dad feeding babies.

 Thank it just helps to settle the mind to write about and get other views on it. I know now Dad is doing all the feeding since I saw him feeding Scuttle the youngest. And he is doing a good job with them all. The trouble is only when tootie is around and he has ..other things on mind.. Since they wake me at 6 I will take her out then, They have all gotten back in the box for night time naps, and watch over them.

Nerwen you can take the chicks out of the nest at 28 days. Then take the nest box away. Dad and mum will continue to feed the chicks. With out the nest box. Dad and mum should not try to mate and they shouldn't try to chase the chicks away.

I took the nest box away from Greeny after the 1st round and there was no problems.

Just keep an eye on them :P

I don't like to take the box until the babies have left it for themself a few times. The elest ones are now spending the day out of the box but scuttle and Reep still stay inside.

Tootie did what I was expecting and had an egg last night. She is now in a cage by herself and the egg removed. She did well considering I took her from the box not even a red mark so show the bite spot (:D bea) Marine called/s for her a bit but no sign of anger to the chicks. I hope in the next few days to remove the box.

Got new pics....again?...of Marine, Tootie, and setup(s)...i love yours!

not yet  I hope to later today. They are all so cute.

I had to change things again. Marine was most upset about Tootie missing and at one point had one of the white face babies pinned to the ground ( I think it was Echo) So I did as Daz said removed the box added Tootie back in and gave the babies a small box to hid in in the back of the cage for a little while. Marine is happy and is not paying attention to the babies now. Tootie is fine with out the box but Squeaker has turned into a bully and is pulling at the others feathers. If he doesn't settle in the next few hours then I will just have to move him out of the cage and into the spare one.

If I don't want the parents to lay eggs again I remove the box as soon as the youngest has made it's first couple of forays out of the box & can sit unaided on a perch.

Nerwen you can remove the box as early as the youngest is at 28 days.. 4 weeks. The Cock will look after them and the hen can get a rest.

Oh dear! Naughty budgies already, your really in for it, aren't you????:D:D

;) SHe laided another egg yesterday afternoon but now she isn't lett marine mate anymore which is great.

ALl things have settled for the most part, Tootie rules the cage if she wants the spot she get's it but isn't chasing any ones. Squeaker is still a bit of a bully. Reep and Scuttle are doing fine standing on the perches and moving around. Reepi likes to play with the bell while Echo likes the toys on the ground.
