April 7, 200619 yr Hurdy that is an excellent suggestion, that is certainly how you as an individual can make a difference. Target the actual source. Allot of times we will prejudge the pet store, breeder etc...and think well if I tell them it won't make a difference they don't care. But the fact of the matter you will never know if you don't tell them what exactly happened to your budgie. No it won't change that Pippin has become part of your heart, of course you don't want a replacement budgie, but it will make them more aware. Will they change their practice, maybe not, probably not but so what, there are those that will listen. People can't become aware if other people don't speak out. They will continue to get away with what they want if people don't speak out. That is what changes the course of thinking, other people thinking out load. Terri, you have allot of passion, and you have the power to make the difference in your community. Edited April 7, 200619 yr by lovey
April 8, 200619 yr I would be trying to source the breeder too, at least to make a statement that they may or may not take on board. My guess is that the petshop probably won't allow direct contact though....and would say something like...they will pass on the message. I would like to know if I was the breeder, that's for sure. And YES I would do something about stopping future breeding from the budgies involved. Or change some practices in daily care that may contribute to this. It does seem futile to try and have a say, but knowing you tried might make all the difference. It's kind of "taking back your power" instead of feeling so helpless in the current and tragic circumstances.
April 8, 200619 yr Those are good suggestions. I have other plans as well. I appreciate all the input, even the disagreements. Never hurts to toss around different opinions.
April 8, 200619 yr And Daz, this is off topic but I do want to say that I really am sorry for what you and your wife are having to go through. I can't imagine how difficult it must be and it's just not fair. I really can't wait for the day when someone finally discovers something that will make a huge impact on those living with cancer or family members (friends, loved ones...) who have it. Thanks Terri. We all have our opinions and it is good to discuss them in this forum. It brings forward ideas and concepts that may not have been thought of. I will continue to breed but will be monitoring the health of my birds better. (If that is possible)
April 8, 200619 yr Terri, you may not want to post publically and I understand. What other actions are you thinking of taking if I may ask, it could certainly education us all in this matter, and later if we come upon a situation with ourselves personally or someone we know. Felt I needed to ask for my own educational purposes, if you don't feel comfortable answering that is okay.
