April 14, 200619 yr Hooray!! This sounds promising! Indeed, it's amazing how it seems that this is our only care in the world. :(Laughing out loud):
April 15, 200619 yr heheee Kirby.. I just love the energy im getting from reading your posts.. Congratulations and if nothing else i give you 10/10 for excitement I know how you feel, i have two little babies hatched and should get another tomorrow I was thinking of the names Egg, Lamb and Bunny for the Easter babies :hap:
April 15, 200619 yr Well the 1st egg should start to develop veins. (Picture 2) in the next day or two. Fingures crossed. I wouldn't go candling them everyday you could Adle them. I would check only once a week.
April 15, 200619 yr Author Okay thanks guys!!! Yes Una...im soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy/ excited/ hopeful/ nervous right now!....(Laughing out loud) okay Daz, thanks sooo much! So i will not candle them for a couple days then right? So far, i have touched them 3 times i think within 5 days...which is TERRIBLE I KNOW! Last time, i touched them like 3 times a day! So, i will force myself to stop touching them now, as i could seriously injure/kill them.... By the way, what does Adle mean? Thanks again guys sooo much! And another egg should be here today! yay! I will be sure to update this post when/if she lays another one! But im getting a feeling theres going to be an odd number...so she might stop now at 3, or go to 5, i doubt 4, or 6 this time around. If these babies do survive, once they fledge, would it be okay to breed Ariel to Chico again in early August...which would be about 6 weeks from when this clutch fledged?..... or..... Kirby
April 15, 200619 yr Kirby, I don't know the actual definition, but I think it is a way to ensure that your eggs are not fertile. If you disturb the developing cells by shaking the egg early on, no embryo will devlelop. It is a way to prevent unwanted chicks without chucking the eggs. So I think Daz is saying the more you handle them, the greater the chance of this happening.
April 15, 200619 yr Author OH MY GOSH!!!...i never knew that! IM NEVER TOUCHING THE EGGS ANYMORE THEN! Maybe thats what happened last time, since i handled them a lot! I feel soo bad now! AWWW!!!! I hope they live! Kirby
April 16, 200619 yr Author UPDATE: Egg 4 is here! Im not going to even number this one...im scared to touch them now! So, hopefully egg 5 will be here tomrrow! And hopefully at least one will hatch!!! Kirby
April 16, 200619 yr Great!! When did she lay this one? If it was today, don't you mean the day after tomorrow? Well, hopefully everything goes well!
April 16, 200619 yr Author No, she laid her 4th yesterday....in Canada it was the 15th..(Laughing out loud)...which was saterday, so tomrrow is the 17th...in which the new egg should be here! I hope to the budgiegods that some of these guys will hatch! Kirby
April 16, 200619 yr Oh I see, haha. :(Laughing out loud): I hope you'll get some chicks as well! I just set up the nest box for my budgies yesterday. So far, Angel (the female) has peeked inside a bit and chewed a little on the entrance hole. She hasn't gone inside yet though, so hopefully she'll check it out soon. Her and Oscar also never mate, and by the looks of her beek, I don't think she is in breeding condition quite yet. How long did it take for your budgies to strat checking out the nest box and start mating? Just curious.
April 16, 200619 yr Author HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAH....my new violet spangles name is Oscar too!!! I wanted Blinky, but Bea wouldnt let me! Well, Ariel (my hen whos having these eggs) started checking out nest box pretty fast. She knew what it was by this time, since she loved to play with it when she was a baby. So, she wasnt really scared of it, and when about 3 months old, she would just sit in it, and called it her own. I then took it away for about 8-10 months, and the very second i put it back in, she went right in it, and started making it her nesting site. From then on, shes loved it, and had a clutch before this one. They were infertile, so i took it out for about a month, and now long story short, she has 4 eggs..and maybe another tomorrow! YAY! Hope some babies are bron this time! As for mating, she has been with my oldest male Chico for aboput 2 years...(hes two years older) and they HATED eachother MADLY!!!!! Until one day, she went in the 'mating position' for him, but he would never mount. She wanted babies SOOOo badly, she laid 5 without mating, which is why her 1st bacth was infertile. This time though, he mounts her like 20 times a day, but ive seen none successful yet! However hes getting better balance, and is now able to stick his tail under hers whether its a successful mating, hes trying! So hopefully one attempt did work this time, and we might get babies!!! ps-QUESTION: Do the cloacas have to touch? I have heard the male can spray his sperm instead of actually touching, and she can get fertilized properly? Or should i say succssfully Is that true... PLEASE SAY IT IS...BECUASE THEN I KNOW ILL HAVE BABIES!!!...(Laughing out loud)... Kirby-Sorry for long post Kirby
April 17, 200619 yr Author I just candled 3 of the 4 eggs....that were ready, and this is what i got: -egg 1 is now 8 days old- opaque, no viens, bubble in wide end has gotten bigger... -egg 2 is now 6 days old- opaque, no viens, bubble is bigger, and has gotten off-centre... -egg 3 is now 4 days old- opaque, no viens, bubble is still small, looks healthier....yet still no viens... -egg 4 is yet to get candled as it is only 2 days old, and im not touching him until at LEAST 5-7 days old now... -egg 5 should be here today!....please pray with me! QUESTION: Do the cloacas have to touch? I have heard the male can spray his sperm instead of actually touching, and she can get fertilized properly? Or should i say succssfully Is that true...??? Kirby Edited April 17, 200619 yr by Kirby
April 17, 200619 yr Kirby, I would recommend that you not touch the last eggs laid for as long as possible. You don't want to take any chances. You will be so discouraged and wonder if you addled them if nothing comes of them.
April 17, 200619 yr Author Yes Shawna...thats what im thinking!!! I will try not to even candle them at all....but if i do, im going to wait until day 15, i already planned that out... Anyways, no 5th egg as of 4:58pm on Monday night...so i think shes stopping at 4! Now hopefully at least one will be alive!!! Kirby
April 18, 200619 yr I still have my fingers crossed for you Kirby :ausb: I would candle them day 5 that is when I did mine and saw the faint lines. http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww36eiv.htm This is another site that shows candling. They are not budgie eggs so take no note of the days. But between picture two and three is what I saw on day 5.
April 18, 200619 yr Author Thanks Nerwen!...your my inspiration! If your guys can, then so can mine! thanks for the link!!! So, in other words, i should see red spot, and viens by 6th day at least...maybe the 7th of 8th.... I will candle egg 1 and 2 right now, and see if i see anything! I doubt it though! UPDATE: She laid her 5th egg later that night! YAY! at like 7pm....then MAYBE she will lay another tomrrow!!! If she does, i will be SOOOOOOO EXCITED! Her last clucth was only 5 eggs, none fertile...so she has 5 now, and ive seen them attempt to mate like 70 times.... And the last dew times looked almost successful! I didnt mark egg 4, since i didnt want to touch it, not knowing she was going to lay another! So now, there are 3 marked...and the two newest ones arent....so i dont which on is the 4th and which one is the 5th! So, im going to have to try and solve this! Hopefully i get the egg i want (# 4) and dont have to disturb egg 5 .... (Laughing out loud) Kirby
April 21, 200619 yr Author :( I candled ALL 5 eggs! NONE are fertile again! :( ! ! ! ! ! What shall i do? The 1st one 'should' hatch on the 27th, and so on.... Should i just wait until they all 'should' hatch...so like May 7th ??? This REALLY SUCKS!!! I never saw a proper mating, but i was hoping they would be like Nerwens guys, which she never saw them properly mate either! Anyways, this sucks, and im sad now! Kirby
April 21, 200619 yr Sorry to hear it Kirby! I wonder if there may be a problem between the two of them. Do you have another male you can put with her?
April 21, 200619 yr Kirby after 5 days out of 7 eggs only two showed they were fertile in my last clutch. I left them and got 5 chicks. Times I touch the eggs. To orginally mark them. 1st Candle after 5 days. last candle after 16 days (2 days before hatch) ....or if I have to foster them. (Last resrot) Too much handling can adle (scramble) them. Great link Nerwen. I'll keep that link.
April 21, 200619 yr Author Thanks guys... Well Shawna, you see... I have a male named Kirby, whos 11 months old now...and is STUNNING! Hes a yellow faced blue type II, in PERFECT condition, and trying to mate with my hens....all of them except Ariel who is the one who has the eggs now, but shes the only one old enough to breed! When i put them together in the past, they first made contact by kicking eacother with their feet, and fighting madly.... So i scrapped that idea, and i put Ariel with Chico who shes with now.... Kirby and Arielwould have the most GORGEOUS chubby babies, and i wish they at least liked eachother enough to breed! So, when/if these eggs dont hatch, im going to rest Ariel for about a month, maybe 8 weeks, then add her and Kirby to a cage with nest box. HOPEFULLY this time they will accept eachohther.... But i have my doubts! The thing is, my male im trying to breed Ariel with, Chico, has bad balance, but i have noticed its getting better. So i will try them again in the future, once i rule out Ariel x Kirby... Thats a great sheduale Daz..thanks a lot! Next time i have eggs, i will try that, and see what happens! Also, thanks for giving me support as to whether the eggs will hatch or not...thanks again guys! Kirby
