Recessive, Pied?

Featured Replies

Hey all I just have a quick question which is probably a really dumb one. I understand what Recessive and Pied mean, but when they say it is going to be a Recessive Pied Dark Green does that mean the main color will be dark green and the recessive part (the splotches) will be a different color like yellow? I'm just trying to figure out what the main color would be because the babies my breeder has are all Recessive Pieds with either Dark Green, Light Green, etc. Let me thank you in advance for your help.

Actually this may help alot. Here is the link (becuase i don't know how to post pics yet) to the website of the breeder. Jessie Lyle's Keets and Tiels Under the Availibility section. If anyone could tell me what the outcome of those 3 sets of breeders(budgies) might be i would greatly appreciate it.

you want to know about the two that are in the nesting box yes? What their babies can be? I can't tell if the white one is an Albino or not that would make a difference and I am unable to see the other 2 parents in the nesting box.

The breeder should know the outcomes, have you asked him or her?

The Lime and Greenie are the ones that have 5 babies now.. The babies they have pictured in the availability section do appear to be pieds.. and I guess that they would have to be recessive pieds since neither parent looks pied to me. Green recessive pieds are mostly yellow.. so that's not going to change. What those babies look like is pretty much how they will look when they get older. Their base color is green so there would be a bit of green near their legs and near their tail.

Here's basically what a dark green recessive pied looks like. The markings and amount of green vary from bird to bird.. I think that the babies for sale will have less green on them. Light green and dark green refer to the shade of green.. light green is brighter.

Snow and Violet. I think that Snow is the male in that pair and he appears to be an albino.. and if so any female babies will be albinos like he is. I'm not sure what the males will be since he is an albino and any other mutations he has are "masked". There would be no green babies from this pair.. maybe violets and maybe blues.

I have not asked the breeder (I have asked her so many questions already I thought I would try here first). I will do that though Lovey thanks.

Obvisouly I will take any baby that fits personality's with mine becuase you should never choose just by color, but i was just curious. I can see the baby's getting color, but had no idea what they would turn into. It's very interesting. Thank you HurdyBirdy for all of the information.

And I will of course posts pics as soon as I get one and learn how to post!!
