Posted April 5, 200619 yr can anyone help i have a couple of pairs of budgies that have produced coloured chicks i wasn`t expecting pair 1=cock=opaline yellowface whitewing(rainbow)x hen=opaline yellowface whitewing(rainbow) i expected this pair to produce all rainbows or at least would have thought that any chicks would have had yellowfaces, however only one chick produced a whitewing violet???? pair 2=cock=whitewing skyblue x hen=opaline yellowface whitewing (rainbow) i expected all chicks to be yellowface whitewings however 5 are whitewings ,and 2 yellowface whitewings(same clutch) was my expectations wrong? are is their a reason? i know you can get yellowface blues that actualy have whitefaces, but i wouldnt have expected any fom my 2 above pairings chicks are ready to leave nest shortly so i will try and post some pics look forward to any replies regards..........................neil
April 5, 200619 yr From both these pairings you can expect 50% yellowfaces. But that is overall, not just in one clutch. In the future these birds will probably produce some yellowfaces. Pairing one: 25% whiteface 50% yellowface 25% double factor yellowface (->whiteface) all chicks should be whitewing opalines Pairing two: 50% whiteface 50% yellowface in this pairing you won't get any opalines unless the male is split for it
April 5, 200619 yr as Mary jane says. For the first one one your parent birds is carrying the violet gene or is a violet themselves by looks cobalt. Would love to see some pictures.
