I think you are both right about the mauves....the three eldest just left the nest and the two you say are mauves certainly look like it too. I believe that mauves are used to create the darker grey green that Radar is, is that right ? If so one of his parents could have been mauve ??

Mauve is a blue bird with two dark factors. Which I wouldn't have thought Hotlips had, but the both have clear blue cheek patches. Greys have grey ones. Grey-greens are to do with the grey line.

Each parent still gives one dark factor each. One with two dark factors will always give a dark factor to their offspring.

Ahh when the violet gene is mixed with the green ( or normal) gene you get a bird that looks like an Olive. We could be wrong about what Radar is but I do think he is a grey-green. Looking at hotLips again I forgot she was a dilute (clearwing?) That would lighten te body colour so she could have a dark factor gene if she is cobalt.

Must be a bad photo....hotlips is a skyblue cinnamonwing

Ahh yeah Cinnamon :) I can see the brown now where I was seeing more grey before. Cinnamon also weakens the colour on the body a bit.

This is a quote from the "Genetics of Violet Factor"...... You can usually tell a green budgie has at least one violet factor. The violet darkens the green body color and sometimes causes violet to show in the feathers near the feet and vent. The feet may also look very dark or purple.

Check out Radars feet

I love those feet, I remember your mauve spangle (the one that you lost ) had those feet too.

Number 2 looks like a grey to me!...and whats wrong with number ones foot?..the back toe is bent waaayyyy forward!...is he okay?

The feet are fine. Its just the way he was standing on my hand. No probs with his feet. They are all out today on perches in Mum and Dads box, looking like bright eyed bushytailed budgies....eager to explore the world. Mauve is similar to grey but has a blueish hue to it and that seems to be the colour so far. I will try for new photos soon. :hap:
