April 5, 200619 yr Reminds me of something out of the Power Puff Girls........ My daughter watches it. : HAHAAAAA yeah yeah.. now the secrets come out .. Yes i forgot to mention I LOVE THE NAME hmmm maybe i should get you to name my aviary so i can put a plaque above the doorway
April 6, 200619 yr yay Nerwen!!!.... What are you doing next? Whats the subsrate going to be?...grass?....if i were you, id do pea gravel....with a layer of brick on the inside around the base for added protection against escape and/or mice.....Also, can you add a big bird bath?!?!?...for me? My dream was to have an aviary with a real bird bath...like ones people put outisde one the stand to let sparrows, doves, and other wild birds to bath....(Laughing out loud).... :hap: Kirby ps-oncgrats on such a great idea nerwen!... :hap:
April 6, 200619 yr Author Inside i'm putting gravel then river sand on the top, or maybe pavers I have to work out which would be easiest and what I can afford If I get pavers not sure if I can get the quails for the bottom. As to a bird bath I would rather give them a container of water to splash in where I can watch them. I would panic that one had an accident in the middle of the night and drowned. Thanks all for the kind words Power Puff Girls huh Daz can't trick us now with 'my daughter watches it' Una- that is why we named this one so we could get a plaque for it It was my mum that came up with the winning name
April 6, 200619 yr My aviary has both paved areas and woodchips and garden beds. The quails love it. Maybe you could do a combination and put some potted palms in like Lin suggested once before. The budgies LOVE palms Edited April 6, 200619 yr by budgiebird

My quails that lives with my budgies have pavers as the floor. but i give them a corner of the aviary with husk and seeds but also give them a tray of dirt that they can bath in. Sort grass for them to peck at. They are happy.
April 9, 200619 yr As usual I am way late reading this post. Congrats Nerwen on a great aviary! I got the same one. You don't need another door, just go in with a bird net and they stay away (Laughing out loud)! I have pavers on the bottom of mine. I have it topped with cardboard which I change weekly - have tried: kitty litter, sawdust, hay (don't ever use!) and have found cardboard & newspaper is the best thing for keeping it clean (quail make more mess!). At the moment I 'decorate' the aviary with leaves & branches from my parents' pruning efforts which the birds love!

April 18, 200619 yr Author I've gotten that before...Must be something to do with the screen name....Then again I was a tomboy when growing up Nothing new as yet. I'm itching to get the birds out into to so I can climb in with them I'll be getting things ready now for the week end and then add the gravel and sand. I'm trying this way and If I don't like it I will add the pavers to the ground. I also need to hunt down some more wood for them to have. My sister -in-law said I could go to her place and get some branches from her trees. I think I will have too there isn't many fallen over the road of late. Then toys and some more food and water dishes....boy the list doesn't seem to end :fear
April 22, 200619 yr Author Things are going well During the week I scrubed the walls twice and the two planks that were bolted in that I left. They will make a good place to put the fresh food on. I got heaps of branches off a gum tree that someone (don't panic I know them) had cut down. The are sitting around ready to be set up. This afternoon I got the gravel and sand and finished off the cage floor. It's looking great. Woohoo I'm almost done!! Last thing now is get the branches and toys in place and then the birds. Oh and fix the wire first *hits Head*
