Posted April 1, 200619 yr I hope this is the right place for the topic.... I've noticed that one of my budgies shakes/shivers uncontrollably at night time!! Only at night time.. I've look at him during the day, and he's perfectly fine, no shaking no shivering... it's as if at night time he gets too cold or something, even when I pick him up, he shakes... non stop... it's weird. This has been going on for at least a week that I've noticed, but probably longer... Anyone know why this could be?? And also, I've noticed that he's got poo stuck to his vent feathers. The poo seems very normal to me, but he just get them stuck on his backside, and again, it only sticks during night time, during the day time he poo just fine. Nothing stuck on feathers. Any idea??
April 1, 200619 yr That is odd, do you feel that he could be frightened, that is the only thing I can think of. As for the poo...not sure any diet changes to make it sticky?
April 1, 200619 yr Author no, I can't think of anything that might scare him, or at least would for the last seven days anyway. And nope, no diet change either. Same ole same ole still... funny that it also only stick at night time. During the day time he seems to poop find. I'm thinking may be the shaking/shivering is somehow causing him to not 'squat' properly when poo therefore poo sticking to the feathers, but that's what I think, but not sure if that is the case though.
April 1, 200619 yr well being nervous and scared can cause the poo to change temporarily and make it runny, I have experienced that with Pretty and have read that. So the key is to find out what why he is frightened and how you can ease him into feeling more secure.
April 2, 200619 yr Author yes his cage is covered at night. He's not alone, he's with six others at the moment. Some will be moving out when they 're-quarantine' is over... the other six is fine... the poo isn't runny. It's normal, but just sticking to feathers... it's firm and it's browish greenish colour with whitish in it.. normal for budgies anyway... And nothings change in the room, so I don't know what could have suddenly frighten him, and only at night time... could he has a constant night fright or something??
April 2, 200619 yr I would get him to the vet to be on the safe side. Does he fluff up and shiver or is it just trembling? Is there any tailbobbing going on?
April 2, 200619 yr Author nope, just trembling... no fluffing no nothing.. acting just like normal except for trembling. eating and chasing and playing and singing and all the rest of it... Like I said, it's like he's cold, but only it's not cold. I'll give my vet a call and see what he says... thanks.
