Thanks.

Booboo looks like a male yellowface type two recessive pied cobalt (or mauve)

Bessie looks like a female sky blue recessive pied.. but may be dominant pied (since she has a bit of blue near her neck) depending on whether or not she gets an iris ring.

  • 6 months later...

When we were visiting the bird specialist with sick Booboo a few days ago she said she was very concerned that Booboo didn't have any iris rings or bands at the back of his head and there must be something wrong. I explained to her that not all budgies had the rings and the bands and she wouldn't believe me. I thought that was kind of funny.

If BooBoo hasn't got iris rings by now then yes I would say recessive pied. Colour is yellowface type2 cobalt.

Bessie in the first picture the cere looks very light so I would think female, although for both of them it's hard to tell in the pictures.

Does she have rings? or is she only 3 months now? With the colour around the neck I would wonder about a dutch dominant pied.

We've had Bessie for 6 months now and Booboo for 3 1/2 years. I don't know how old either of them are as Bessie was bought in a shop and Booboo I found on the street near where I live and bought him/her home. They both have black eyes without iris rings and no bands at the back of their heads. Bessie's cere is a very pale pink, almost white and Booboo's cere is brownish / mauve / pink.
