Posted March 29, 200619 yr Hello again! I was wondering whether it's okay to give your budgies greens while their babies are really young. Cause I found a site that said it wasn't good to do so, but mine seem to want more greens now that they have babies. I've given them heaps of grass and celery in the last two days but they still seem to want more. Should I keep giving them grass and veggies or should I wait until the babies are a bit older; the oldest is a week old, and the youngest is 3 or 4 days old? I thought since they probably wouldn't have access to dried millet etc in the wild it would be okay to give them greens but I'd rather have some outside advice. -Shann
March 29, 200619 yr what do you mean by grass? I give mine veggies all the time it's the best way to get the babies loving the stuff in life. Carrot, boiled eggs, bean sprouts, lettuce, corn. They love it all.
March 29, 200619 yr Author They love seeded grass, summer grass I think its called, so that what I mostly give them. I give them veggies too though; celery, carrot, parsley, brocolli, beans, snow peas, corn and peas. But they wont touch boiled egg....
March 30, 200619 yr Give them everything you normally give them. You will see bits of the greens and vegies in the babys crops with the other food Mummy gives them. It's the way the babies know to eat the same things when they leave the nest as they are used to the taste already.
March 30, 200619 yr Shann This is what I feed my birds. -Diet When they have chicks I increase it. Hope this helps.
March 31, 200619 yr They love seeded grass, summer grass I think its called Got you yes I give my lot that as well, they love it. I also this week gave a small branch of leaves for mum and dad to chew on (and bath in (Laughing out loud)) But so the babies would get a small taste of them as well.
March 31, 200619 yr I have babies at the moment, and I can't seem to feed them enough fresh vegies. They seem to prefer vegies when they have young. Bit different to normal times when you would swear i am trying to kill them by providing fresh food
March 31, 200619 yr At the moment Mum is very territorial, and stands on babies when I check on them, so I'll give her a few more days, but yes, pics will come :hap:
