Posted March 29, 200619 yr I have noticed that Bobby's poops are a bit runny, and he has been quite puffy and sleepy lately. He still loves his seed but doesn't seem interested in lettuce or snow peas which he normally loves. Also he has stopped chattering away which he normally does contstantly (even in his sleep!) I discovered that the vet I usually take my pets too has an avian specialist, so I have an appointment at 2:00pm for a check up.... wish me luck!
March 30, 200619 yr Author Well Bobby is back from his vet visit and he has an infection :ausb: The doc has put him on Baytril, only 1 drop a day, and has prescribed rest and warmth and a stress free environment. I feel really guilty and feel like I have made him sick, I made him have a bath the other day and he hated it (but he did smell bad) and I went away for the weekend and even though we left plenty of food, water and toys for him maybe he was upset being at home alone. So I went and bought him a new toy to help him on his road to recovery, and hopefully he will get better soon. :bluebudgie: Oh I nearly forgot to mention, the vet was wonderful, he is an avian vet and he really knew how to handle him and what to do, he asked me heaps of questions and told me that Bobby was a good bird!! (even though he bit him!!) I was very impressed and pleased with his service! Edited March 30, 200619 yr by Riebie
March 30, 200619 yr Aww, where is the infection? Or is it too har to pin point becuase you caught it early. one drop of baytril is a small amount so it can't be that bad. is he enjoying his treat toy?

Or is it too har to pin point becuase you caught it early. one drop of baytril is a small amount so it can't be that bad. is he enjoying his treat toy? He didn't actually say where the infection was, :ausb: I was too busy thinking OMG my baby's sick to ask specifics :bluebudgie: All I asked was why this had happened - hence the guilt trip! The vet did praise me though for bringing him in at the first sign of the illness! He loves his new toy, It's his new favourite! Holly is happy too cause she has her rope back! :(Laughing out loud): Edited March 30, 200619 yr by Riebie
March 30, 200619 yr :bluebudgie: Good to hear. Remember infections in budgies look all alike at the start. But I know what you mean you mind just goes blank.
March 30, 200619 yr Author You should have seen the look on Bobby's face after he was given his first dose of antibiotics!! It was imposible not to laugh!! It was like he had swallowed a lemon!!! :(Laughing out loud):
March 30, 200619 yr Glad that Bobby got quick and proper care and is on the road to recovery, you must be very relieved. You might want to check with your vet on this but my vet told me to mix a very tiny amount of orange juice or apple juice (I chose orange juice) with the Baytril and my Rosey Bourke actually opened her beak when I had to squirt it in! Again, check with your vet before you do this but it definitely diffuses that bitter (yuck) taste.
April 1, 200619 yr Author He is doing a bit better thanks for asking!! His poops are becoming more solid with only one every now and then a bit sloppy :fear He was chattering a bit last night but is quiet again today, I think he may be a bit cold so I have turned the heater on (we had the air-con on last week ) He is doing well with his medicine, he is hard to catch as he doesn't like to be held, but once I get him out he is okay... He will be okay, tomorrow I will let him out of the cage again if he appears well enough!
April 3, 200619 yr Author Well Bobby seems back to his old self again, talking, chattering (biting ) and his poops are also back to normal! He only has two days left of the baytril so I will finish the course, best to be safe than sorry! I let him out of his cage for some flight time today, but he must have been annoyed with me for having him locked up for so long, he promptly came up for what I thought was a kiss - then he bit my nose :fear: drew blood too the little bugger :
April 3, 200619 yr That's gratitude for you !! You've probably paid out enough to gold plate his toenails and he bites ya beak !! :
April 3, 200619 yr Haha! The nose is like the most painful place to be bitten! Glad he's feeling better now.
