Posted August 15, 200420 yr hi... are there n e good ways to layout a cage with the props? pics of ur cages will be a good help on ideas of how to put things in the cage and the types of things B
August 15, 200420 yr Hi Bhups, definately you need to have at least one perch as high up as is comfortable for the bird to roost on as they feel safer the higher they are at night. Food and water should have perches near them. I like to have them so there is plenty of uncluttered flying space from one perch to another. Don't put too many toys in at once as that is too cluttered and cuts down on wing stretching space. When I was taming my two I just had two perches (apart from food ones) and not much clutter as it's easier to move your hand around gently in the cage and less for the bird to fly into and get frightened.I wouldn't move things around too much till he/she is reasonably comfy with you.The only toy I gave mine (at first)was called a pacifier(from a pet shop)so it could preen it and play with it.This has a large bead and some bristles hanging down from it. Good Luck, Julie
August 17, 200420 yr How big is your cage and what do you have in it now? A few perches of different sizes and textures are good, as well as toys and maybe a swing should be fine, as long as you have the room. Like julie said, you need to be able to easily get to things in the cage, as well as having plenty of space for your bird.
August 17, 200420 yr hi... my cage is approx 30-35 cm wide, 60cm high and 60 cm long (all approx sizes) Its got 3 perches 1 at bottom, middle and higher up.. as it cant fly to the to did have a long dangling toy but got rid of it :S as it was takin too much space.. will take a picture of bird and cage soon. just need to get my lazy *** and get the camera B
October 21, 200420 yr skys cage is normal size, has big swing, 3 perches, bell and hamster wheel. i only put the wheel in for a few hours at a time becuase it takes up to much space. sky can "hop" from perch to perch but the cage is too small to fly in, but i let him out at night for a couple of hour. i dont think there is a set lay out, you have just got to find a way that suits you and your bird. February 25, 200520 yr Whats anyones thoughts on the rope type perches and swings. Scully3915 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i have a rope perch, it is multicoloured. my budgie doesnt perch on it much but they provide variety to prevent discomfort in the feet. i also have a natural branch in the cage. rope perches are okay but when you clean the cage you have to check that there are no stringy bits that nails could get caught in. as long as you do that i would really advise on getting one if you have a lot of the ordinary wooden perches in the cage. i also think they look a lot nicer than the brightly coloured cement perches you can get.
February 25, 200520 yr All my birds seem to like rope perches and swings I think you should get one if you don't already!
February 26, 200520 yr Mine seem to prefer rope perches, specially for perching on but I've restricted it to one now as there been a lot of discussion on claws getting stuck in loose threda so I can keep a better eye on just the one. Julie
February 26, 200520 yr you have to be careful and watch with these, but i have hard plastic chain that i can hang other toys from. my cage is about waist height so just below for an average person? (im short!) my cage is tall and skinny cos there was no room for a wide one i figured tall is better than nothing! but anyway chiisai loves the chains. i hung one lengthwise from the top of the cage and put a bell on the end. he thinks its brilliant that he can ring the bell from pretty much anywhere in his cage to get my attention! :(Laughing out loud): i also have natural branches cut from trees at my grandparents home (away from too much traffic) and some king of bendy one too... hard to explain about that one.
February 26, 200520 yr My string never comes unloose so I don't really have anything to worry about of course the rope was 15 bucks
