The water today is clean. I have a water management that includes suppliments and medication.

The seed is mixed 200 grams to 5ml breeding aid for the breeders or 200 grams to 2.5ml Cod liver oil & Wheat germ oil to the rest of the birds.

As you can see Duey loves it and he's feeding Greeny and 4 chicks.

This mixture feeds these guys

Karen I use Passwell' Budgie Starter and Crumble.

Passwell's Webside

You should be able to get it at good pet stores or Produce Stores.

I have found that the birds love it that well that I am using less Seed....and it's healthier for them.

Thanks Daz. I will get some today and try it out. I have another female budgie to pick up so will try the starter and crumble on my lot later today. Cheers Karen

When you start them, start them small give them only a taste and gradually increase.

One of these dishes is enough for two birds for the day.

Unique...No wonder your birds are beauties! :D:

Why did the one hen die then?....(a couple weeks/months ago)...[spangle one...]

Spangle died from complications in the Vets after she prolapsed.

Prolapse is whee the egg is passed but the internal lining is extracted from the body and doesn't let go of the egg. If you can catch the bird in time and release the egg with some warm oil she may be okay. You can't breed with her again for that season.

In spangles case I didn't see her untill near midday. She could have been like that for hours. We released the egg and got her to the vet but the complications occured that afternoon. :D

I have actually changed my routine slightly.. It was taking too long in the morning to do all of this so I clean and replace the water and seed in the late afternoon. They still get everything above but in two stages. :D

Are the celery and carrots raw or cooked Daz? I've tried both with my guys and they won't touch them. But they love broccoli and romaine. They will devour a broccoli floret in a few minutes. They don't seem to eat anything but seed from dishes though. I have to stick it in cage bars and hang from top of cage.

So you don't use pellets? I'm trying to introduce those now. I've ground them with a food processor and put in with seed and then have a dish separate. They don't seem to touch them whole and I'm not sure if they are getting them in the mixed seed as they are more like power and are probably getting thrown out with the husks.

I serve mine raw. Daz do yours like it chopped like that??? Mine only like it grated.

Mine is raw and cut up like you see them. Strangly they don't like grated carrot :) They like it chopped... :glare:

If you can get one pair to start to eat it then you have them all. Budgies are curious birds. If they see one do something they will try it. Then everyone will get into the act... :P

The only way I got mine into it was the fact Pie was use to it and started to eat it when I started to convert them (this is when it wa just Pie and Freckle) After a while she tried it then kept him away from it :(Laughing out loud):

I think now if i gave it to them like that they will eat it. In fact not sure now if my last statement is true, they prefer grated I think. When I tried with Freckle when young with carrot I had a small dish I put chopped carrot in and she turned it into a a game of 'empty the dish' :(Laughing out loud):

I find that when you are breedig and the parents start to eat the vegitables then when the chicks fledge they will also start eating it. It only seems natural for the chicks after seeing the parents eat it.

Yep, they are also getting it from hatching too. (or at lest after the crop milk stage.) So they have a taste for it. Egg and carrot mix was the first thing Ringo tried to eat by herself.
