Hey guys...as many of you know i got my new male budgie on tuesday night! Here are shots of him! I know now hes a male, hes 6 weeks old, and is a green spangle. You cant really make out the spangled markings in the pics, but you sure can in real life. Would he be a dilute green spangle then? Here he is!..my darling!

Is that a good for bad thing?..(Laughing out loud)..

So, if he was bred to a blue spangle....what would they create? (the blue spangles mom was a skyblue spangle, and dad was a cobalt looking blue normal)....Tangos mom was a dark green, and the dad was a green spangle...

Kirby

Really, okay thought so...(Laughing out loud)

So would they all be spangle then, since both parents are...?

Kirby :ausb:

Some will be single factor spangles some normal and then you will get double factor spangles will will look like lutinos but with black eyes.

It's not a bad thing to have dilute at all, just remember it's a recessive gene.

okay....that makes sense becuase he doesnt NOT have a 'bald' patch on his neck....

So, this means that if bred to another bird, they WILL or will NOT create spangles, but just normals...? What if i were to breed him with a blue spangle hen whould i still get spangles?...or....

Hey guys!... My Tango has been with me for about 4 days now i think...and i thought he was a boy! BUT...

Tonight when he bit me! OH MY GOSH!!!...it hurt more than any males ive felt before! It hurt more than half the bites ive gotten from females! He is also not singing, but rather only 'calls' to my other guys! Hes very outgoing, and im suprised that he isnt singing, since hes soo happy playing with me! So, does this mean hes a she? The cere is still pink and blue, but has white rings around the nostrils....PLEASE HELPPPPP!!!!!

Once again, ill try to post better pics....

You can see the spanleness in these shots....notice the shading or edging on the wings....The pics still arent the best...

And im also confused as to whether hes really a he or whether hes a she! You can read my previous post i did at 12:27 yesterday...just above this one to help you.... To summarize, he bites VERY HARD, chews on perches more than play with toys, doesnt sing even though hes VERY happy...hed rather chew, and sleep....PLEASE HEELP!!!.....Is he a female now?.. (Laughing out loud)

Kirby :(

Kirby,

I think you'll have to be patient. The forum is pretty quiet this weekend. I say that it is a male dilute green spangle. These pictures are a little better. The wing markings are hard to tell but there was one shot of the tail somewhere that you could really see the tracing. The cere looks quiet purple/blue vs. white/blue which is what all of my females have.

  • Author

So you think hes a male still Shawna?

The cere is blue, but then has the white iris rings still ????? .....Yes, i need to learn patience...(Laughing out loud)

ps-if shes a girl, her new name will be Fergie!!!.....(Laughing out loud)...aww :D

Kirby :D

You can't really tell with the biting. My males all bite much harder than the females do. The females will occasionally give a little nip, but the males will hang on and grind your flesh to bits without letting go. ouch.

I go with male it is a pretty even colorish, Pretty had nasal rings that were whitish but when you looked close they are really more purplish whitish in color. As Shawna said time will tell. Pretty bird.

Thanks lovey...i agree

Tangos a male!....*i think* :glare:

Kirby :)

I'm wondering about the spangle gene. I've looked closely at your pictures and in some you can see the feathers at the bottom of the wings are 'filled in' which you don't see in spangles. Plus not having the dot on the head.....well it would be the first spangle i've seen without it.

I think the lightness on the wings might be down to the dilute gene. you can see what I mean here:

Yes i agree Nerwen...

HOWEVER!!!! I AM 100% that he is a SPANGLE!!! and 98% that hes a MALE!!!..(Laughing out loud). I just looked at his inner wings, nis back, his tail, and everyting else!!!..i know hes a spangle...just a diluted one, and his owner has a bad camera, so you cant make the marking clearer!!!...(Laughing out loud)

UPDATE:

I set up my new cage last night...like literally 5 seconds once i got in the door from school! I forgot to even walk my dog..(Laughing out loud) They cage is wonderful, even though its blue..i still really like it, and it matches my room that is blue! ALSO!!!..i know im bad boy...but! When i was switching the flock to the new cage...i forgot that Tango was on my shoulder...Once i put the birds in my room, to wait before i put them in the new cage, Tango managed to fly on their cage, and i left the room not knowing he jumped off! I went to the next room, and assembled the new cage stand...and realised my back felt lighter! So i reached back to grab Tango..and he was gone! I imediately got up, and went looking! I ran in the room, and there he was, getting groomed by my hen Ariel...(the one who laid 5 infertile eggs)!!!...They were in love! At first, i went to get him off, and put him back in his cage, but they were too cute together! Its been 18 days since i got him, so i thought, aww what the heck, hes fine...so *** live with the new guys in the nice big cage from now on! I know your thinking " NO KIRBY!!!....bad idea!!!"...but i took Tango to the vet 4 days ago, and hes PERFECTLY healthy..so im fine! Anyways, he loves his new freinds, and loves the new big cage! He is still quiet, and rather lazy, and is acting like a female again....even with 4 new freinds, but his cere is pink today!!!....with white still! It changes everyday! (Laughing out loud)....So, in all i guess im saying, the new cage is great, they all are together, and overall, im VERY happy!!!!:) :)

Kirby

 Good to hear they are getting along. You at lest have reports from the vet giving the all clear many don't even do that. Now where is a photo of this cage? :(Laughing out loud):

Glad to hear you got your cage. Sounds like yours went together easier than mine. Did you contact them about sending the wrong colour?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing your flock in their new home.

Thanks Shawna!

Yes, my dad did e-mail them...and did complain... We CLEARLY said at least 3 times...WHITE!!!! Even on the mailing order sheet that came with the box it said 'white wrought iron cage'!!!!..so its a conspericy!!!... :) I would have liked white better, since i would not make my 15 feet x12 feet bedroom seem small..(Laughing out loud)..since the dark stands out more...but blue was my second choice, and the birdies stand out better, so im not going to die from it...(Laughing out loud) :) I have used the iron tray that came with the cage as a divider now...and its VERY sturdy! So, i have the pair i want babies from Kirby (yellow faced blue type II) and Ariel (cinnamon, white violet recessive pied) in the smaller top area...which is still 32" long x 21" wide x 14 " tall. With the nest box attached inside...They have shown interest in one another, and they arent fighting like they use to, so i thought id try them for breeding...as they are both coming out of moulting, and both are getting the brown, and royal blue ceres....which should be perfect in about a weeks time..which will be about when they start courting!!! ***I hope!!!**

UPDATE:

Tangos is a FEMALE for sure now! White rings, blusih colouring to cere, and is acting like a female more and more...and is VERY shy and quiet! She loves chweing perches, and only shouts, but doesnt singlike any of my other males...She is also 'chubby', and not really active..same with all my other females!!!!... So, i will get an older male to try and breed with her in the future, as well as my 2 year old white recessize cinnamon violet pied, and my when my 4 month old skyblue normal hen is ready to breed!....

Also, i have out the nest box in for Chico and Ariel in the cage. Instead of rushing and laying infertile eggs, this time, they seem more comitted or 'married'. Last time they laid eggs, the just started prenning once they were laid, and they just started feeding eachother at the same time aswell. This time, they peen a lot more, are always together, always flirting, and feed eachother a lot more frequently! She is alos in the nest box alot... :D:):(
