How big is the lump and do you have got her breeding.. it might be an egg?

  • 5 weeks later...

Hello all! We're new to this forum and very happy to find here. This problem is similar

to ours so we've decided to post message here.

We've been having this male budgie for more than 15 years but he's not feeling too

well these days and we need some advice.

He recently started accumulating a lot of poop stuck on his bum area. He seems have

lost most of his feathers around the area. We clean his bum using a wet tissue and

poop comes off most of the time but the worrying thing is he has a big thumb-sized

lump/tumor just below his vent. We don't know if it's painful for him but he still eats

well and talks although he can't fly anymore possibly because of the weight of the

lump. We'd like to have some advice.

Thanks in advance.

I would definately take him to an avian vet. we had a similar problem with cheeky only it didn't end so well.

Avian vet, asap. We can give ideas but only a good avian vet can give you a real answer. Good luck.

Welcome to our forms - I would post your message again as a NEW TOPIC therefore you can get advice on your own specific question.

Most of the time when they have sticky poop something is internally wrong (not to panic you), he could have an infection somewhere in his body (digestive system). A lump also can be a fatty tumor or it can also be a sign of cancer. Really the only way you are going to get a diagnosis that is correct would be to set up an appointment at your avian vet. Since we can't see the bird and we are not authorized vets.

My first thought was, "Is it an egg?" How long has it been there? Is she showing any other signs of illness?

:hap: she isnt showing that anything else is wrong with her she is still herself. the lump is abit better now. but before when i put the nest box in with saw dust thats when the lump appeared. then i cleaned the nestbox out and didnt put sawdust and the lump has gone down abit. how long does it take for her to start laying if she has an egg :D

I'm not really sure. I hope some of the experienced breeders can answer that for you? Could it be a fat pad? My overwieght budgie has a fat pad near her vent. It is getting a little smaller as she loses weight.

It sounds like both birds need a trip to the avian vet. I hope it goes well. :-)

she isnt at all obese so i dont think its a fat pack. but i will take her vet as soon as i can. as im at college and at the moment dont have much money till next week

I hope it goes well at the vet.

One of my hens develped a lump near her vent last year when I put her down to breed & it disappeared when I removed her from the breeder without any eggs.

This year the same thing - lump near vent. Unfortunately this time she died.

No, I didn't find out what it was as the body had been taken over by ants - she had died overnight.
