okey i had my birds for 1 yr and they havent been breeding and i have a nest box in there and the female goes in there but no eggs and i havent seen my birds mating so what can i do because i am really looking forward to breeding them. :ausb: :P

godsdrummer209 a couple of questions.

  1. How long has the nest box been in the cage.
  2. Are you sure that the birds are male and female.
  3. Where is the cage with the nest box located.

If you have had the nest box for months in the cage they probibly won't use it.

Depending on the type of budgies you may have same sex budgies.

If the cage is in a high traffic area with people passing by all the time they may not breed.

Can you post a picture to show us the birds and the cage set up so we can help.

First thing that came to me is that the box is not stable enough. It looks as if it is balancing on the dowel branch! I would either move it around so it sat flat on the bottom of the cage, the birds might walk all over it and poop o it but that doesn't matter, Mine did that and had three healthy chicks. Or get some screw in hooks and attached it to outside the cage using one on the small doors. Having a branch right under the hole helps as well for them mum and climb into with ease and dad can stand at the door way to feed her and then later tempt the older babies outside for a feeding.

How long has the nest box been in the cage? It's a good idea to leave the box for 21 days if nothing has hppened then remove it for a week before bring it back and it usally kicks the hen into her cycle.

I must say both of your birds are real lookers :P

I agree with Nerwen the box should be better positioned. Also It is a large box in that cage. Can the birds access the hole or is it in the corner?

I would try to place the nest box outside to give more room.

My thoughts were to check the perch and make sure it is sturdy enough without movement and of a decent diameter for the pair to grip onto. They don't like to bonk on a wobbly perch or too thin a perch. Also, I agree with Daz that fixing the box externally would be better as there isnt a lot of family or romancing room in that cage especially with the roof designed as it is :P

I would also change the perch. It runs along the cage and it looks like the only one in it.

I would cut it in two and place it across the cage so that they can fly back and forth from one to the other.

okey so when u you say specially the way the roof of the cage looks like what should i do bout that and i will move the nest box today nd and post a picture to c see if i did it right thanks for all you guys help

Not much you can do about the roof space of the cage but it is a good place to hang some toys if you want. If the shaped areas werent there it would provide some more flying space. It is just a congested area due to the shaping of the top. Birds love to hop from perch to perch as Daz has said so two perches across from front to back would be better. In their mating ritual they like to hop about and show off to the partner. It all helps. You will get good advice on this forum, all designed to make things better for the birds :(

can i take my nest box and set it on the ground?

Yes you can if that is the easist way to set it out. I've had mine flat on the bottom of the cage the first time I breed and the hen hoped in and had three great babies.

okey guyz thanks for all you guys help :dbb1: :ausb: :(:D:)
