No Eggs?

So my pair have been in the breeding cage for 12 days with a nest box, plenty of cuttlebone/mineral blocks, and an excellent diet, yet they have not even attemped to check out the nest box yet? Mating isn't the problem, believe me!. It is there first time, and both are over 12 months old (don't worry, I've done my research!) Is there anything I can do to "help them along"? Or am I going to have to continue to wait? (I was told it could take up to 2 weeks for the female to start laying eggs if it is their first time)

One more question, I've been giving them egg food every other day, should I be giving them less/more? (my version of egg food is a couple hard boiled eggs with shell, breadcrumbs and shredded carrot)

Your doing fine. You can try putting some millet near the breeding box hole, that should tempt them to get close to the hole.

My birds that now have 5 eggs, took about 4 weeks! And they are experienced breeders

okay, I'll try the millet.

And I don't really mind waiting, but my Grandma has been asking my mom every single day "Are there any eggs yet" (Laughing out loud), she loves my budgies.

I usually leave them in for 21 days. If no eggs I take them out for a week and then the second time I usually get eggs with in 11 days.

  • 2 weeks later...

Its been 23 days and there are no eggs, so should I take them out?

I'd take them out for a week and then retry.

okay, I'll do that, thanks.
