Posted March 15, 200619 yr Hi All, I have 2 pairs of budgies, and the first pair started laying on the 13th, and she is now sitting on 2 eggs. This is her first clutch- is it normal for her to only have 2? And how long are the incubated for? I am not a complete fool so don't need a lecture about studying before attempting to breed- I have had budgies my whole life and bred them when I was younger(along with my family), but just can't recall incubation or ever having a clutch so small. Oh, any websites about budgie colours and genetics? Besides any info I find on this one? As I am so impatient to see these chicks, if all goes to plan and they hatch, I'd be interested in a prediction of colours(sorry, I bred rats and mice and like to know what to expect (Laughing out loud) ). I don't even know what to call the parents- the hen is yellow with faint white wing markings, the cock is blue with a white head and wings. Thanks!
March 15, 200619 yr Hi birdie someone posted this link online... http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/1958/notech4.html I bred for the first time last year. 4 pairs, some had 3 eggs, and some had 5. I would think since its their first time, they would have a small clutch. Since I only bred once, I dont remember off the top of my head how long they incubate for (shame on me, bad memory!) but someone will post quickly im sure! If you post some pics of your parents, they will let you know what you have here! Does your hen have red eyes?
March 15, 200619 yr 18 days from the time she starts to sit, which is usually when the second egg is laid.
March 16, 200619 yr (Laughing out loud)..I posted that link!!!...its great eh? yes, 18 days, the eggs are laid at intervals of 2 days. They hatch in order in which they were laid.... ps-post pics of parents... Kirby Edited March 16, 200619 yr by Kirby
March 16, 200619 yr Author Thanks for the replies, and the link :dbb1: I posted pics of the parents, aswell as my other pair, here- http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=9040
March 16, 200619 yr Good luck with your birds I think you a might have more eggs on the way since she isn't due for the next until tomorrow. (17th) If they are still mating (if you saw or heard any) then truly so. The hen will stop mating once she has her full clutch and the average is 4-5 eggs.
March 17, 200619 yr Author Please, excuse my excitement, but... whoohoo!!! egg number three came along this morning!! :parrot:
