I have a couple of questions about cage size and the number of birds living in them.

What size cage is good for one budgie? Three? and finally Six?

Thanks you and I look forward to your replies.

Id say the fallowing:

-18"wide x18" long x20" tall is good for one....if supplied with flying time...

-14"wide x20" long x20" tall is good for three...if they get time outside...

-14"wide x30" long x20" tall is good for six...if they get a lot of time outdside....to play and frolic!

Hope this helps!

I have two cages that are almost the same but one is wider than the other. One of them is 17.5L x 13W x 22.5H - That one houses three, and my other houses the other three. Is this a good set up or do I need to get a bigger cage and house them all together? All of my birds get atleast 3+ hours out of the cage a day, if not more. What do you think??

Id say get a bigger cage for all 6....

Id think one about 30"long x 14"wide x 20"tall is good for them!....

Great find Misty!

That cage would be more than enough for your small flock of birds....I love it! I was looking at that cage myself, but bought a galvinized big one with a stand instead....

Misty that is the EXACT same cage we have for our budgies!

We have two and the cage is the perfect size for them as they can actually fly around in it. I have to say it is not very "solid" in that the wire is thin and you have to be very careful when you move it - it takes two people because you could easily bend the wire.

Instead of the wood perches, we went outside and got some nice textured broken tree branches for perches and put them in the corners of the cage to increase the flying space.

The boys just LOVE the space they have there in their big cage. But I personally don't think it would be big enough for six birds! Four would be the absolute maximum. The cage is big but not huge.

By The Way if anyone in Melbourne is thinking of getting the same cage - ours was $99 AUD at the Diamond Creek pet shop and they have black or white in stock

A cage like this http://demsondpetdepot.com/Merchant2/merch...tegory_Code=BAC Would be good for 2-4 budgies.

I have this cage and it really isn't that big - I'd say 2 budgies max. I use it for my quarantine cage and I'll use it as a breeding cage in the future. It doesn't really allow for flight because there are only two 3 options for placing the perch - almost on floor, almost on roof, and near middle.

I have to disagree, I have those cages and they're quite spacious when set up right. Obviously, you'd want to get your own perches as the dowels don't offer much variety or ability to set it up well.

Are you sure you don't have the 24"x16"x16" ones, Shawna? The 30"x18"x18" one is really beig. I have kept four budgies in one comfortably. At the moment I have three of these cages set up. One with my three females, another with my two males, and the last one with my two cockatiels. The 'tiels are getting a new cage because they need more height but the budgies do great in these.

You are right - mine is the 24 inch one I think. Didn't even look at the sizes in her link. I'm also spoiled with my big 64 inch cage so the 24 inch seems so small to me now. The 24 inch doesn't allow room for flight just hovering.

i wouldnt go less then 20" x 20" by 20" H for a single budgie and you might be able to squeeze a second budgie in that if they have lots of outside fly time and after that is say add about 4 Inches onto the width or length per budgie
