Introducing Star And ?

Featured Replies

My flock is continuing to grow. I found two lovely breeding mates today for Wylie and Sylvester. They are in quarantine in yet another cage and breeding attempts will not be made until 2007. There are birds everywhere around the house - and I love it. I'm calling the little yellow-faced opaline Star. I'm guessing she is probably a type 1??? I don't see any bleed and her colour is more sky blue than Wylie's. She looks quite young to me. Still has a bit of black on the tip of her beak, and cere is very white.

Can't think of a name for the green dilute yet - any suggestions appreciated. She must be a little older. Her cere is beige/brown. She

So if I mate Wylie (a yellow face type 2) with Star what will the babies be? I'm assuming all yellow faced blue? But how will the type 1/2 come into play? And the opaline?

And if I mate Sylvester (a yellowface type 2 dilute) with the green dilute what will I get? Dilutes I assume but is there any rule for what colours I'll get?

great looking birds there :D

Joining the type 1 and 2 yellow faces tend to get more green bleed on the body almost to normal green.

Dilute is recessive gene. All will be green unless your new girl is split for blue.

very pretty, congrats on the new additions

They're both beautiful. How about Venus or Comet for the green one?

Not necessarily. You could get 25% blues if Wylie is single factor yellowface. The rest should be yellowfaces. Only males will be split for opaline, unless Wylie is split for it himself - then you could get some.

I think that the new girl may be a greywing.. If she is, if you paired her with a dilute, you'd probably get all greywings (but could get 50% greywings and 50% dilutes)

Venus is definately a contender!

So the 25% blue would be normal blue (white face/black markings/sky blue body)? So interesting! I thought for sure if they both have visual yellow faces that all babes would have yellow faces and only the body colours might vary some. I'll be so glad when I get this stuff all straight in my head - yeah right?!?

Do you say greywing because her body colour is quite strong? Her wing markings look almost green to me - not grey. I find these mutations (dilute/greywing/clearwing) so confusing! But I LOVE them!

So the 25% blue would be normal blue (white face/black markings/sky blue body)?

Thats what I mean.. Assuming that Wylie is single factor - that means he has one yellowface gene coupled with a blue gene you could call them "YF2" and "b"(double factor would mean he has 2 yellowface genes, no blue genes).

A double factor yellowface type one has a white face (don't ask why (Laughing out loud)..) so the new one would also be single factor - one yellowface gene and one blue gene you could call them "YF1" and "b".

YF2 b (Wylie) and YF1 b (Star) could give you 25% YF2 b; 25% YF2 YF1 ; 25% YF1 b ;and 25% b b

It's that b b combination that gives you the blue birds (with white faces)

Do you think that Beka (I finally picked a name for her) could be a clearwing?

She could be, it's hard to say with the lighting.. how would you describe her green coloring - lighter/more faded than normal or brighter?

could be a full body greywing?

"The full-body-color greywing variety has grey markings on the wings and head and a bright body color."

Her body in the pictures looks bright, I would try and take a picture of her during the day with no flash. The flash really brightens colors.

I don't really have any "without flash" pics. Here is another shot.

I can't remember if it was this forum or another, but someone identified her as just a dilute. There is definately no grey on her. And my understanding of a clearwing from the picture he showed was there would be a greater distinction between the colour on her wings and the colour on her body. But then again, she isn't really light like Sylvester and Tweety. So I continue to be confused :D
