Posted August 9, 200420 yr Hello everyone, Just a little tip here for any new budgies owners out there! If you want your budgie to be tame then I would advise to not have a mirror in its cage. This distracts their attentions as they think there is another budgie in their cage... and there isn't A mirror is not necessary because there are many other toys that can keep your budgie(s) amused! :(Laughing out loud): My Billy has never seen a mirror in his life and he is the most tame and playful budgie I have ever met! Toys like balls, olymipic rings, swings and bells really keep him entertained and he literally could play all day if he didn't get tired! Just a little tip there.... August 9, 200420 yr you mentioned bells in thier cages as good toys, i agree that they are as i have bells in my budgie's cage.but you have to make sure the budgie does not pay too much particular attention to the bell as they can see thier reflection in some bells and the same problems can arise as with mirrors.
August 27, 200420 yr mmmmm yes mine seems to have a thing for bells... altough, i had a mirror in the cage, and my budgie tamed down just fine...
August 28, 200420 yr Mine did too...but when he reached about 9 months of age he got very possessive of his mirror and would sit by it all day, and sing to and feed his reflection. If I got close to him or the mirror (it was attached to a ladder) he would attack. (ouch!)
August 28, 200420 yr oh (Laughing out loud) mine have never attcked me cos of a mirror or anything like that... yikes... well i finally took all the mirrors away from chiisai, especially if he is a boy, because all the boys i've had are more mirror fanatics than the girl.
January 10, 200520 yr Yes, MIRRORS! Violet (male) loved mirrors! He'd sit there all day glued to it chirping to it and pay nearly no attention to other budgie, Snowy.
February 26, 200520 yr i must be lucky with our charlie,he`s had a mirror from day 1 and still loves to come out and play, only trouble he`s started biting but some ones told me how to help stop him. he loves to talk himself in the big mirror over the fire sat on my hand, after a couple of minuites he seems to get bored of it.
February 27, 200520 yr all my birds have ALWAYS had mirrors and they are the snugglyest most playfull birds ive ever met only tweety is nippy and not tame i got her when she was an adult thats why
March 25, 200520 yr yea i heard if u want ur budgie to talk dont put any mirrors in the cage or else the budgie 'budgie talks' to the mirror and it will never want to talk to you ..i dont use any mirrors but charlie does love bells
March 25, 200520 yr I had to take my budgie's mirror out because he kept attacking it and wouldn't stop shrieking
March 26, 200520 yr hi just thought i would say that i've only had buddy for two weeks now ,but within five days he became obsessed with his mirror. would just sit and stare at it and totaly ignore me or any of his toys, i even came in from work during the day to check on him. so sadly i took it away on monday. it's like i now have a totaly different bird, lively, singing and very playfull. myself i will never put a mirror in a cage again kevin
March 26, 200520 yr I put Blinkie's mirror opposite his swing. He launches onto his swing so he is swinging at full height then clamps onto his mirrors with his beak. He just sit hanging between his swing and mirror!
March 26, 200520 yr You bet it does!!! Sometimes i wonder about his brain capacity! He can be a bit of an idiot!!! Lucky he's gone to bed. Might be getting my fingers pecked otherwise!!! Edited March 26, 200520 yr by Bea
March 26, 200520 yr The best thing Sparky has done was when for no reason hung upside down from his perch and started chirping for about 12 seconds and then just sat on the top again as if nothing had happened :(Laughing out loud):
March 26, 200520 yr Once again, i sometimes wonder about their brains!!! :(Laughing out loud): I just love it when they hang upside down!!!
March 26, 200520 yr It makes me wonder if Sparky does have a brain  and if he did it would be very tiny
March 26, 200520 yr They have little brains to fit in their little heads nut their little brains are very smart!!!
March 26, 200520 yr Some of the things we do must seems odd to them!!! Maybe they think it's us lacking brain cells...not them!
March 26, 200520 yr Bea and Sparky your posts really made me smile! (I can't comment on the size of a budgies brain as I couldn't even work out how to put your two posts as quotes!Could do one but not two!) Julie
March 26, 200520 yr You can do billions of quotes really easy. Just click the quote button beside the post you want to quote. It should turn red. If you change your mind just click it again and it should turn back to normal!!! :bluebudgie:
