How much time in the sun does my bugdie need? He enjoys it when I put his cage outside (half in sun and half shade) but it gets really hot here and I am not sure how long to let him stay out.

 

Also, Levi has his wings clipped. We have his cage open most of the day if someone is home and he spends a lot of time sitting on my shoulder but since he doesn't fly I am worried he might not be getting enough exercise.

The first question is a good question, they can be in shade all day, but never in direct sunlight as that is not good for them. In the wild, they are in the shade all day under the trees and in the trees. If it gets hot you can offer a bath or spritz them.

 

Second question, I can answer this one with experience because Pretty is the only bird. When I first let him out he will fly around but then after that he perches around on his play gym. So I interact with him by doing the step up command one finger at a time, like a ladder. You can promote him to fly by putting him on your finger and then raising it and give him a slight lift off (Terri's suggesion on what she does to get her birds exercise). Also if he is playful toys. Be creative, I know Pretty is starting to just fly more on his own, but with no one to play tag with in the air it proably feels it is not worth it to fly around.
