Posted March 12, 200619 yr Hi All I need some advise. Pippin is coming up to his 1st birthday in a couple of months, but since I got him every now and again his feathers are stained a dirty brown/orange above his cere. He is just going through a moult at the moment, so the stain looks worse than ever. I sprayed him last night as he hates having a bath and noticed that this stain also looks like it's on his scalp. Although he is a clingy little budgie, he won't allow me to touch him with my finger only with my nose He his healthy enough and doesn't seem to be in any pain or distress, as he is still talking and swearing. I just wondered if anyone had any idea as to what it could be. Thanks Pippins Mum
March 12, 200619 yr Because he is going through a molt, it would be normal, and he may be rubbing his head a lot on different things in his cage. Anything in his cage that might stain his little head? Also does he eat veggie/fruits that can do it too.

The only veg he will eat is carrots whch he has had today, but this stain was there before I put the carrot in his cage. It looks very much like the stain is coming out from his cere if that makes sense. I have got a picture of when he was a baby with this stain, but I'm not sure how to post it without it being too big. Hi AllI need some advise. March 12, 200619 yr It could be nasal discharge. That looks likea stain and like the feathers are wet. Does he sneeze much/at all? Or can you hear him breath? I take it he had had it all his life. Does he rub a certain area of his cage and if so what colour is it?
March 13, 200619 yr Author Yes he does sneeze a lot, and has done since I got him but his breathing is fine, I cant hear anything that sounds wheezey. I have seen him rubbing his little head on the cage bars, but only when he has been moulting. He has a natural tree twig for one of his perches and the others are plastic adn occasionally he will rub his head on these. Do you think he needs to see a vet with the discharge ?? I'd hate to think he has been unwell all this time and I've ignored it.
March 13, 200619 yr He could have allergies to something in your house. My bird sneezes everytime the furnace kicks in because it stirs up dust so I know he is sensitive to dust.
