Posted March 10, 200619 yr I'm worried about my green and yellow budgie Joey.:ausb: I think he may be slighty blind. he used to enjoy coming out of his cage but he cant find his way out (he used to be able too) He isn't very old and I only got him a few weeks ago. His behaviour is strange - he cant find my finger whereas Jazz my yellow Lutino will just happily hop on. Joey doent even seem to fly properly now, he will just sort of hover and flutter to the ground mybe bashing into a wall. He will walk around but he seems very unsure and he will cheep like he's anxious. He cant ever find his cage but Jazz can...His eyes are bright and shiny and they have a good diet exercise etc and I know it isnt alot to worry about but the symptons are a bit worrrying. Maybe he is just ajusting... Its maybe nothing but thought I'd check...I couldnt find any othre posts with this on so... Thank for the help. March 10, 200619 yr Has he got all his feathers? Was he finding your finger and flying okay before? How long has he been like this? I was thinking a moult might have been making it harder for him to fly but it doesn't match the not finding finger theing. He is tame? Was he happy to sit on your finger before? I have to suggest a trip to the vet to get him all checked out. Yes we here are all bird lovers and owners yourselfs but not vets. When a probelm arrises the most ocmment responce when we are unsure is to see a vet.
March 10, 200619 yr I would agree, a vets visit is needed. Something is deffinatly amiss. did he crash into anyting when this started happening? I deffinatly sounds like he is having a vision problem since he cant find his cage door etc. Can he find his food/water? Poor baby, I hope you find the problem soon.
March 10, 200619 yr Thank you. I love Joey to bits and I am in despair at the moment I'm always by his side...I'm a little pathetic when it comes to animals I'm such a fusser. No he isn't moulting at the moment. He was perfectly fine hopping onto my finger without a second thought. He is very tame but at the moment he is quite quiet. He would even fly around the room in full flight and often landed on my shoulder when I made clicking sounds... He never crashed into things apart from the odd one...now he is continously crashing into everything and he will sort of 'fall' down when he hits some thing and will sit there until I pick him up. At the moment he is on his swing, and he is not making a noise. Jazz is cheeping very loud. I'm not sure what to do for him but I think I'll give my vet a ring... March 10, 200619 yr If he is only young, and you think his eyesight has deteriated so quickly, a vet is the only way to go. So many diseases have things like eyesight as their first symptom, so, please take your little one off to an avian vet. And please, let us know what the vet says, as it helps us to help others if we know the outcome
March 10, 200619 yr Thank you. Yes, I will definatley take him to the vet and keep you all updated. I am so worried and budgies can fall with only the smallest of illnesses. Fingers crossed for Joey. Soph xxx
March 10, 200619 yr I have things crossed for your little one that you probably wouldn't like to know about I hope it's good news
March 10, 200619 yr :ausb: Good Luck to Joey, hope you can get to the bottom of this as I know it is worrying you.
March 11, 200619 yr :hap: All my fingers etc are crossed and i hope the poor little mite is going to be okay.. Make sure you please keep us posted on his prognosis. Cheers  Una
March 13, 200619 yr Thanks so much. Ahh, these forums cheer me up. I think its so nice when other people care too. Argh! Still not managed to get lil' Joe to a vet...we booked an appointment but it snowed heavily on Saturday and we couldn't get out of the drive! We had to cancel but we are going to take him the same day as our cat (he needs an annual check-up make sure everythings going shipshape! ) Yesterday I checked on him and I thought he was alright...but the 'symptoms' came back and now all I can do is make sure he has plenty to eat and drink. Jazz is very good to him making sure he is okay and cuddling next to him. I will keep you updated the vets visit is sometime in the week. Thanks very much again everyone Sophxxx
March 13, 200619 yr Reading in a budgie book that they can develope cataracts in their old age, are his eyes bright and clear or do they look cloudy?
March 13, 200619 yr Well, as far as I can see his eyes seem bright, shiny and black which indicate the signs of a happy healthy budggie and he isnt very old at all so I'm very puzzledand very worried... Sophxxx Edited March 13, 200619 yr by budgie_mad
March 13, 200619 yr Please make sure he sees an avian vet, not a small animal vet. Avian vets have the expertise and knowledge to ensure your little one gets the proper tests etc. I still have everything crossed for you
