Hey,

I've been looking into that actually... I asked at my local plant nursery, and they consulted a book in their library and found that any acacia (wattle species) and also any melaleuca should be both non-toxic to the birds and also not too tasty to them either :hap: I bought one of each, but havn't actually put them to the test yet, so I can't personally say.

Also, I did put a small branch of bottlebrush (calistemon) in recently, and mine didn't touch that. But then again they're a pretty fussy bunch. They munch the grevillea I put in, so I put in new branches for them to destroy.

Also, I notice budgiebird's lush aviaries from the other thread have frangipanis and also palms, and also have a look at Una's grasses - they're pretty nice and lush, but I can't figure out exactly what they are to buy some! I might print out a copy of a photo from Una's aviary, and take it down to the nursery and ask them for "one of those"!!!

That's all I can help with

Another idea is to pot your bushes up in large pots. When the birds have had a bit of a munch, pull that pot out, replace with another plant, and let the first one recover. Means you'll have bushes in various stages of recovery, but is a nice easy way to do it

I have bottle brush and some other one that starts with c (ummm cant remember!) and i switch them over but it tents to be a pain in the butt! I think I will try some grasses. The ones joanne listed i've never heard of, i wonder if they are aussie natives? Thanks for the ideas :-)

:hap: They are just clumps of grass i got from out bush so i cant really help with any information with them, other than they get really lush and green in the wet season (i live in the tropics) and after the grass seeds it dies back alot and looks rather yucky till the weather is just right the next wet season.. Im lucky that i can just get in the car and dig up a stray clump of grass out bush when its required :(

Cheers

Yes they are Aussie natives.... are you not able to get Austrlaian plants where you are? That's a pain! Because I understand that your climate is similar to ours, so I think they'd have done okay there too!

Oh well, sorry I can't help!

Cheers
