Posted March 9, 200619 yr I'm sure every bird is different and it depends on what the owner wants, but in general how long does it take for a birds flight wings to grow back after clipping? Basically I'm wondering how often I have to get them clipped. Thanks. Edited March 9, 200619 yr by karma-k
March 9, 200619 yr Pretty's grew back in 6 months (I believe whenever they molt is when the new ones will come in) So you know he was flying when there where 2 new ones on each side and that was about 4 months into the clip. They don't need many flight feathers to get lift . So you may have to have them trimmed every 6 months.
March 9, 200619 yr Thank you for such a fast response!! I just love this site. I was asking because the breeder I am getting my baby from is about an hour away from my house and when you get a bird from them they provide free lifetime wing clipping. i was just worried that if I had to go very often the hour car ride would be too tough on the bird. Is about every 6 months too much for them to go for an hour car ride?
March 9, 200619 yr No I don't believe so, as long as you transport him the correct way. You can purchase a transport cage or if his regular cage is moble. I would take out perches, put a towel on the bottom so he doesn't slide around, and cover the cage so the movement doesn't frighten him. Good luck, post a picture of your new one when you get him or her.
