Posted March 8, 200619 yr Birds like geting into a routine. When am I going to get feed and watered and where is my treat. Here is my daily routine with my birds. Week Days. 5:30am Time to change the water. everyone get fresh water, On a four week cycle they get clean water 1st & 3rd week, probotics the second and apple cyder vinague the forth. Anitbiotics every 3 months with a worming every 6 months. All seed pots are seived to get rid of husks and dusk. Then topped up. I used a general budgie mix from Golden Cob. It is specialy made up at the produce store. (The owner is a breeder) 1 teaspoon of Cod liver oil and wheat germ oil is mixed into 400 grams of seed and left for 24 hours to soak in. Breeding cages with Chicks get new Millet sprays. They are gone in a few hours. Snow pea sprouts, Sprouted mung bean, pea and lentels, either grated carrot or fresh sweet corn off the cob is mixted with 2 grams of multi vitamin and protien additives and served in individual plates. (note i stop the multi vitamin in weeks that a have the liquid vitamins.) A mixture of 1 tablespoon of Budgie starter and 2 table spoons of Egg & biscuit is mixed and is feed in separate dishes to each breeding pair. Also a table spoon of Huled Oats is given separate to each breeding pair. The birds in the flight get huled oats twice a week. The birds are checked for problems. Nest boxes with chicks over 15 days old have the wood shavings replaced every three days and as they get older every two days. (I leave the wood shaving out to air for 48 hours before using it and all dust is blown away) 6:15am I have breakfast. 10am What is left of the fresh food is removed. The birds are rechecked for problems. 5pm All dishes are removed and washed ready for the morning. Nest boxes with 24 day old chick recieve a fresh millet spray to help teach the chicks to crack seed. The birds are rechecked for problems again. Breeding Cages are cleaned twice weekly and the flight every week end. The flight is disinfected every 3 months. The nest boxes are disinfected between rounds and the cages after I change the pairs. Each week the flight recieves a gum tree branch which is removed by wednesday. The birds are checked and weighed when they are paired and after breeding. They get "Dunked" for lice at the beginning of Spring and Autum. ...and reweighed. All records of weight and problems are recorded on my computer. Any major or worrying problems are refered to a vet. I spend a relaxing time sitting and watching my birds as I have Breakfast (in Summer) and in the afternoon. That is basically my routine. Edited March 13, 200619 yr by daz
March 8, 200619 yr Wow Daz! My birds would love it if I was that organized! Daily routine here is 7am: Inside birds get uncovered, fresh water etc. Outside birds get fresh water etc when I get back from dropping kids off at school, between 8.30 and 10amish. Daily cage tidy up for inside birds, but good weekly clean on a Tuesday morning. Aviaries get a good clean on the weekends, and, when the sand on the floor needs replacing is the time I scrub the walls etc. So, the time frame on that depends on the number of birds in the aviary, more birds - more often Outside birds also get water freshened at about 4pm as well. The rest of the stuff I must say I am not as organized as you, but it gets done in a reasonable time frame.
March 8, 200619 yr Author Add the middle bit......6:30am off to work. 5:30 pm arrive home from work. My Wife helps with the middle of the day chores.
March 8, 200619 yr I check Marine and Tootie first (8.00am) with fist batch of fresh food ready, at the moment favourite is carrot, but I add bean sprouts and corn, and either boiled egg or egg and biscuit mixed with it. Give fresh water, check seed, removing husk and replacing the lot around day three (sometime two) Check on chicks while mum and dad are feeding. Then give fresh food to the others, replacing water and checking seeds as well. I remove the fresh food when empty (or in four hours which comes first) Around 1pm give new batch of fresh food to Marine and Tootie. 5.30 remove food and cover for the night, making nightly check at the same time. Say goodnight to the others. At the moment I'm cleaning both cages weekly. but with the chicks that will move to twice and the box will be changed when needed (roughly three day apart when older) I think that's all Oh fresh leaves and branches (to chew not to walk on) when I think of it, maybe once every three weeks. Standing branches replaced when dirty, if not cleaned.
March 8, 200619 yr my routine 9am birds fed watered and checked (if at work my other half will do this for me and the very rare occasions we are at work together my father does it ) proabotics are only given 8 weeks before breeding and for 8 weeks after breeding they also get a calcium additive before breeding and after on the 8 week cycle as well as access to cuttle fish all the time millet is given 3 times a week to breeding pairs and twice a week to the birds in the flights soft food given egg and grated carrot and soaked mung beans to breeding pairs and sprouted seeds egg and carrot is given to the flight birds every other day fresh veg given the nest boxs are the last to be checked and if any birds need ringing it is done in the morning nest boxs arnt cleaned till the birds are 2 weeks old and then every 3 days unless i have a pair with a wet nest then every day depending on the weather i either open the windows or put extraction fan on the birds are then left to settle about 6pm i go and sit and watch for about 45 mins all the birds (somtimes longer if i want peace and quiet from the wife and daughter) i then start my evening check all fresh food removed and nest boxs are checked again any paper work updated breeding cages are cleaned between each round of chicks so not to disturb the pair or chicks (deep litter) flights are cleaned once a week and the flight disinfected once a month the concaves are changed between rounds but the nestboxs at the end of use unless changing the pair in the cage then a new box is used and the old one cleaned the birds are checked before breeding and after but not weighded these are done by hand ie feel them and look them over the birds in the flight are caught and checked by hand once a month unless i see something out of character wormed every 6 months every 3 months 3 random birds are taken for a check including bloods to the vets (this is just started thanks to pixie) every couple of days i start the soacked seeds and mung beans off this does change slightly in show season

March 9, 200619 yr Author seed and fresh veggies....sometimes mashed egg or cous cous. Cous Cous I do that with Lemon rind and chillie flakes. Hot and lemony... I love it but no good for the budgies. Please do not feed chilli to your budgie.
March 9, 200619 yr Author Am i right though that plain cous cous is fine for budgies? I'm not sure. Cous Cous is made of grains. It would be good to check it out just in case.... I never thought of using it. :hap:
