March 8, 200619 yr you have to work on shoulder taming just like you worked on finger taming. Forming a bond for them to trust you enough to go on your shoulder. I just started working with Pretty, he jumps on my shoulder now, once on my finger but doesn't stay long. I entice him with millet his favorite treat in the whole wide world, when he is on my shoulder this is the only times he get it now Work daily with the training - 10-15 minutes a day. (note they may never do it, it just depends on the bird and how comfortable they are with human contact)
May 3, 200619 yr I have handled my budgie since he was about 3 weeks old. I didnt really have to train him to sit on my shoulder, he just chooses to! I did train him to sit on my finger but once he felt comfortable doing that, he more or less flies wherever he wants to and lands on my shoulder (or head) whenever he wants. He is a great companion, and lots of fun.
May 3, 200619 yr that is awesome Merlin is like that it is nice to have budgies that are handled so young.
May 3, 200619 yr Yes, he is just wonderful. He even wants to come outside with me to where I have my breeding cages. I have to take him off my shoulder and place him somewhere inside then try to run outside before he catches up to me. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times to get outside without him! I dont believe in cutting their wings. This morning I heard him wolf whistle for the 1st time,(have been teaching him that for the past few weeks) I know he is going to be a real character. He's only 7 weeks old!
July 22, 200618 yr When Moon comes out of her cage, I coax her onto my finger, then she attaches hereslelf to my shirt. She then climbs all the way up my back and perches on my shoulder. That is her favorite place inteh world! She never wants to leave it, and I hear her twitter many times from her. I dont know if she is talking to me or just chirping for the heck of it...
