Posted March 2, 200619 yr okay, so you may or may not have read that i've set up 2 pairs of budgies for breeding Blinkie a friend (yes, i want lots of choice.....and maybe i like babies.....maybe). The pairs i've got inside are Jasper + Akala and Bobbi (or Budgie) + Lemon, so now naturally i'm curious about what colours i could possibly get. Here's what the different birds colours are: Akala: greywing opaline cobalt Bobbi: sky blue spangle (Parents: sky blue spangle cock, opaline violet hen - from this pairing i also got cinnamons and an albino if that means anything) Now Bobbi might be Budge, my fool proof plan of one having cheek spots and one not has failed so now i don't have half a clue which is which! So Budge: skyblue spangle (has produced cinnamon and albino babies) And the other pair.... Jasper: sky blue spangle (Parents same as Bobbi) Lemon: lutino lacewing (Parents: normal green cock, green recessive pied hen) So what are everyones thoughts?
March 2, 200619 yr Alala & Bobbi - It's a bit overwhelming to put it all together. Opaline- Opaline cocks,Normal/split Opaline cocks,Opaline hens, Normal hens (Bobbi is split for opaline because his mother is opaline/Budgie may also be split for opaline.. I think that you've had a male opaline from him) Spangle - 50% Spangle, 50% Normal Dark Factors - 50% Cobalt, 50% Sky Blue Bobbi could be split for Cinnamon or Albino and that could show up in female chicks. Greywing - all chicks will be split for Greywing You could get normal cobalt, normal skyblue, opaline cobalt, opaline skyblue, cobalt spangles, sky blue spangles, cobalt opaline spangles, skyblue opaline spangles and (maybe add cinnamon to any of those combinations) (or albinos.. or lacewings) I don't think I even want to figure out the odds for each (if I could) Jasper & Lemon - Normal greens and green spangles - All babies will be split for blue. Males will be split for -ino and cinnamon. 50% of the babies will be split for recessive pied. Jasper is split for opaline. You can get opaline hens, normal hens, males split for opaline and normal males There's a 50/50 chance that Jasper is split for -ino, if he is you could get lutinos cocks, Normal/split lutino cocks, lutino hens, Normal hens There's a 50/50 chance that Jasper is split for cinnamon, if he is you could get cinnamon cocks, Normal/split cinnamon cocks, cinnamon hens, normal hens -- I suppose you could even get more lacewings. I hope that clears things up a bit. You have complicated budgies. Edited March 2, 200619 yr by HurdyBirdy
March 2, 200619 yr Now Bea I though you were going to be responcible and not breed for a while..... But Blinkie would make a great dad. Out of curiosity I would go with Bobbi. You should get 100% sky blue spangles but it will show up any spilts
March 2, 200619 yr wait who is with who??? you first said Akala with Jasper and Bobbi (or Budgie) with Lemon. Then later you swapped them. I will stick with the first pairing Akala and Jasper: Blue Spangles, Blue Opalines, Blue Opaline spangles and normal blues. The babies can be cobalt or sky blue depending on what Akala gives with her dark factor. Bobbi (budgie?) and Lemon: Green Normals and Green Spangles, females will be opaline and the boys will be split for cinnamon and opaline.
March 2, 200619 yr Author Well now i can't remember who i have with who. :(Laughing out loud): Thanks for your help though, basically there's a lot of different combinations i could get!!
March 2, 200619 yr basically there's a lot of different combinations i could get!! Basically.. yep. Do you have another cobalt spangle other than Blinkie? If you do, you may be able to get mauve spangles (&etc...) with Akala.
March 3, 200619 yr Author Nope, Blinks is my only cobalt spangle. I have a violet spangle but last time i paired him up with Akala he spent the whole time hiding in the nest box and not letting her in. I've decided to put off breeding for a while, i think i was going into this a bit half-heartedly which is obviously not the way to go. I will however use all this info next time i do breed my budgies because i most definitely want to use these pairs.
