Sorry the photos are too big for the forum. 450 x 450 is the largest.

The photos have been changed to links

They both look like boys to me.

I'm not good with picking blue colours but the other looks a recessive pied.

Sunny is a green recessive pied and might be female to me, i can see whitness around the nostrils.

Cheeky is a blue spangle and looks male to me.

okay I thought it was odd to call the blue one Sunny but that is what your title say with the pictures, but I saw you post on another thread and say the blue one was Cheeky and the yellow one was sunny So I've swaped the names around to suit.

sorry got pics mixed up. thankyou for your help. i thought sunny was girl too also because of the white around nostrils. her cere has also got lighter where cheeky's hasnt changed.

Sunny looks like a yellow faced blue recessive pied to me?? Aren't green recessive pieds usually WAY brighter?

Not always - Sunny is still a young bird so might brighten up a little.

If you look closer in the last picture you can see green under the wings.

Still looks like a type 2 yellow face on my monitor. Cheekysunny, do you have a photo from the front?

Sorry I can't see the cere the bars in the way and the other has his/her head turned ... :ausb:

gorgeous birds, if you can compare Sunny's cere to Pretty's in the picture, you can make out female or male. Pretty is male, his cere is pinkish/purply but he still does have whitish rings around his nostrils which threw me off at first.

I'm not even going to attempt to sex them because the photos appear to sort of soften and change the cere colors too much. You'll be able to sex them better yourself because you can see what they look like in person. Just keep in mind that "white rings" can appear on male babies too. Well, on males the nostril rings will be more light blue or light pink in color. On females, it's a pretty distinct white.

And Bea, it looks like a type 2 yellowface on my monitor too. Especially that picture showing them from the front.

Yes your right Bea Now that I see the front that Sunny is a yellowface type 2 :budgiedance: As Karen said they are both young and even normal green ones can be a soft yellow colour before the first moult. I was kinda 50/50 with the first picture.

Hi everyone, thankyou so much for the help. Looked at sunny again and there is defitnely distinct white rings around her nares. I'm really hoping i have a boy and a girl because i eventually want to breed them. how old do you recommend they be before breeding?? they're showing all the signs of pairing up, as i often see cheeky kissing/feeding sunny. it is so cute :D and they're always preening each other. the only confusing thing is the other week, sunny mounted cheeky :bluebudgie: she/he hasnt done it since. was it a sexual thing or maybe a dominance thing?? also, sunny is louder than cheeky, she/he seems to be very bossy, always pushing poor cheeky off the perch and chasing him away from the food. :ausb: poor cheeky is so scared of her/him when she/he is bossy. i'll keep everyone updated.

It is ill advised to attempt to breed your budgies until they are 12 months old at least.

That way all their growing has been done & they have built up enough vitamin/calcium & fatty stores to properly care for young whilst keeping themselves healthy.

It also ensures they are mature enough to properly care for their young.

If you wish to breed them also ensure you have a spare cage for the young when they fledge - also sometimes a female/male is not a good parent & you have to remove them.

Birds often feed each other - it is a friendly thing & not necessarily a prelude to mating (although it can be).

I still think Sunny is male also but we will see after the first moult at around 4 months or so.

Sunny would've already had first molt as she is 6 months old already. does that mean the white rings guarantee a female?

(Laughing out loud) no! there are no guarantee's of sex expecially with pieds of Sunny's age.

In males the cere is usually a fleshy pink or purple at adulthood. Female from light beige to chocolate brown.

If Sunny is 6 months old then s/he should show a more distinctive colouring. Looking at your pictures I still reserve the right to say 'boy' but of course I have a 50/50 chance of being wrong! :(Laughing out loud): It would help if you were able to get better quality pictures. :D

I've just gone back over the photo's you posted & in Post #8 and thought Cheeky looks pied to me. He has a white spot on the back of his head.

Guys? What do you think? Could he be a Pied Blue Spangle?

I have NEVER seen a spangle with out that mark, I think it's a part of the gene.
