Bare Eyes...

I have a lutino female. She is about 4 months old. I purchased her from a petstore. She has always had no feathers around her eyes. kind of like some of the cockatoos. Are there budgies like this, or is she unique??? i've never heard of it before!

Thanks

No budgie mutations I've ever heard of have that characteristic. It may be indicitive of some sort of illness or parasites like mites. I think, if it had been plucked in the nest there would be more baldness than just around the eyes. I don't think you should expose your other birds to it until you take it to a vet to see what's going on in case it's something transmittable.

its weird, she got all her tests when i got her,and everything was fine, she was quarantined for 45 days. but as she gets older, its more noticable!! i have checked her for mites, and nothing. its deffinately not caused by plucking either. I will have to take a picture & post it!

That does sound odd. She may be rubbing them against a toy or perch or the cage due to an itch? It could be some sort of allergic reaction. I would definitely take her back into the vet for another lookover and possibly more testing. Some budgies get weird places around their eyes during a molt but it sounds like this is unrelated to molting. Keep in mind that many budgie illnesses don't always show up with the first test.

thats true eterri, she did go thru a heavy molt, maybe thats it??? hmmmmm
