Posted February 22, 200619 yr Hi, I belong to a general parrot forum. a member there has a blue Opaline budgie whose head feathers seems to be turning yellow in the last couple of weeks... There was no sign of yellow on the budgie before that. I don't have too much more info at the moment. Since there's not many budgies owners there on that particular forum, I thought I'd ask here if that's okay with the mods and the rest of the members. Can the yellowface factor come out during the first molt? or is something wrong with the budgie to cause the feathers to turn yellow now? Should she take the little girl to the vet now to make sure that everything is okay? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks. I hope I've put the question in the right forum.
February 22, 200619 yr that is interesting, the only thing that I have read is that during their molt if they are a Type 2, it diffuses throughout the body more. I am interested to hear the answer too
February 22, 200619 yr WelL I havn't hear of it before, is this a moult or us it just turning yellow? Is there anything yelllowing the cage that the budgie could be rubbing on? If there is I would say remove it, transering colour would not be a safe thing. If it is a moult.....well opaline does make the bars on the head lighter I wonder if it cuased the yellow to be too pale to pick up at first and it is now moulting in stronger. Ask her if you can use a picture to show us please Edited February 22, 200619 yr by Nerwen
February 22, 200619 yr Funny thing about colours....I was shocked one morning to find mypurple and white female SKYE had developed a green ring of colour around her neck :fear ....With a bit of thought, I realised she had had her head in the spinach bowl all morning
February 28, 200619 yr Author okay.. she finally answered some of my question... Yes the budgie seems to be molting at the moment.. No there's nothing in the cage (or surrounding) that could turn it's head yellow... and I've got some pics.. but it's too large, so it's a link... The owner seems to think that it is part of the feather colouring, and not just something that rubbed off... http://www.centralmaineweb.com/sarah/yellow.jpg Any suggestion why this is happening?? Thanks. P.S.. the budgie hangs out with a cockatiel.. so now the mommy thinks she's trying become a cockatiel with the yellow crest!!!
March 1, 200619 yr My yellow budgie's head turned orange a few weeks ago because of his mineral block (orange flavoured)...he is moulting now and most of the orange has gone. Any mineral blocks in the cage that are yellow?
March 1, 200619 yr Author Nope... not that she told me.. she basically said that it can't be stained as she doesn't use anything with colouring?? hmmmm..... Have to wait and see when it's fully molted.
March 1, 200619 yr looks natural to me, although im no expert. budgies often turn a much darker colour after their first moult. it looks pretty.
