Posted February 22, 200619 yr First I wanted to say, Hello again!! I was a member of this forum awhile ago, but I have been on another since I have mostly big parrots, and they are all the trouble Buuut I wanted to join up here again!! I missed this place! Anyway, I was driving home from the bank today, and while on Abbot I looked off to one of the side raods, and saw this bangeds up cage on it's side. I stopped, turned around and went to investigate. There was this TINY cage (one of the ones you see in pet stores that claim they are for a finch or budgie) with 4 budgies inside! Keep in mind this is ALASKA. Today it is about 30 F outside, which is warm for this time of year, but still. The cage wa all mangled, so I grabbed it and gently put it in my back seat. The poor things were sooo scared, and one had died . I almost cried for the poor things. I got them home, put them in a backup cage I have, and threw the other cage out. They are sitting in my brothers room right now, since my room and upstairs both have other birds. I am worried for these guys, but I think they are okay, just really shocked and cold. Anyone have any tips to help settle these guys in and calm them down?? I am going to put up a lost ad, but It looked like they were dumped or fell out of a car.
February 22, 200619 yr i'd go running for the vet, if you can. and keep them anyone keeping that many birds in a small cage like that needs to be ... well i won't say. keep then i'm sure you can give them far better than they've ever received. remember the cheap birds plea!
February 22, 200619 yr Yeah, pretty much. I was angry, sad, upset when I found them. I am going to wait until they settle down to take them into a vet's office. Hopefully, dad will melt and love them just as much as I do, so I can keep them One of them accidentally flapped onto my hand when I was changing the water a sec ago...and he was like "hey...this isn't so bad!!"
February 22, 200619 yr Oh thankfully YOU found them. Just lots of food and water, a quiet room, and maybe 3 sides of the cage covered? So they don't get scared by things on all sides of them. Please keep us updated
February 22, 200619 yr Thank goodness they found you and you found them. I would keep them covered on all 3 sides, and give them a good week to settle in they have to be scared to death, from the cars going by, different noises and being so cold for them. Not that it would make a difference, but I would report it to the police or the ASPCA for a report, in case they find out who did it. You know some people brag about it and that is how they find out. It is worth your peace of mind for sure, even if you don't find out who did it. If you have the ability to take pictures of them when they calm down, we would love to see them for sure . Keep us posted.
February 22, 200619 yr What an awful thing.. but I'm really glad you were able to get there for at least 3 of them. I really can't think of any senario where the birds' owner would deserve to get them back.. unless they were stolen or something like that. I hope you'll keep us updated on their progress, etc. Good luck.
February 22, 200619 yr ow thats so sad so lucky you found them take some pictures of the birds so then if they find the owner and he did abandone them you can charge for crulity  keep us updated and when they settle in a picture would be so cool also what colar are the birds?
February 22, 200619 yr oh my gosh, that is so sad! i am so happy you found them, and had the heart to go back and pick them up! poor little things must be terrified, and to have a dead one in the cage must be so traumatic. yes, i would give them a few days to relax, warm up and eat. then take them to the vet for a check up. i hope your dad lets you keep them! fingers crossed all goes well. please update us and some pics would be great!
February 23, 200619 yr Thank god you found the poor birdies. So sad that it was too late for one of them.
February 28, 200619 yr You are a saint!! I'm sure (sadly enough) that many people drove by without a second thought, but you came in like their guardian angel :angel1: and saved them. I'm sure they wouldn't have lasted much longer out there. I'm so sad for the lost birdie, but thank goodness the other three are okay. Best of luck to you and your new best friends (which I'm sure they will be). Definitely post those pics when you can and keep us updated. I would love to hear how well they do becuase of your kind heart.
March 1, 200619 yr Oh wow, I can't believe someone would be that cruel to do that!! Thank goodness they were so lucky to be picked up by you. I doubt they would have lasted long out there! I hope they are doing better and keept us posted!
