Posted February 20, 200619 yr Hi i have a budgie who lost his mate a little while ago. I got another younger female budhie as a companion. They seem to be getting on but my original budgie has started twitching his wings. He seems okay in himself, chirping, and flying around, but this wing twitchig has happened in the morning on about three occassions latley. Anyone had any experience of this???
February 20, 200619 yr I'm not too sure what you mean by his wing twitching. Could you describe it a bit more? Is it trembling? Also, I'm not sure how long you've had the new budgie but you should always quarantine a new bird in a separate room and cage for at least 30 days to monitor it for illness. Not to mention, your other budgie may have picked up something from the one that recently passed away and that can be passed to your new budgie. It's very important to be strict on quarantine.
February 20, 200619 yr hmm ya could you explain it a tad more? AND IF IT LOOKS SERIOSEC ALSO CONTACT AN AVIAN VET FOR FERTHER ADVISE
February 20, 200619 yr Well , his wings are in the resting position and he kind of lifts them (not extended)and they twitch, as though he has an itch nor something. Hes chirping as normal at the time and then flies around as normal, but when back on perch this happens again.
February 20, 200619 yr that is normal, Pretty does that. It is from flying around and he needs to rest, does it stop within a minute or 2?
February 20, 200619 yr Yeah, unless he's doing that repeatedly, I wouldn't worry. But if you have a bad feeling about it, follow your instincts and get him to the avian vet for a look over. That will at least ease your mind.
February 21, 200619 yr I know exactly what you are talking about! My budgie Levi is very social and outgoing. A few months ago his friend Nova passed away and Levi developed the same twitching of the wings that you are talking about. I think he was just really lonely and bored and wasn't used to being by himself. I felt terrible when I had to go out and leave the house - he was so lonely. I got him another friend a couple of months ago and since they have been put in the same cage he has stopped the wing twitching. Hopefully once your budgie is feeling relaxed and comfortable with his new friend he might stop twitching as well! I imagine it is just a lot of changes for him to get used to. All the best and I hope he feels better soon :-)
February 21, 200619 yr Thanks for your help. I'll keep you posted. Its good to know that others have experienced the same thing!
