Posted February 20, 200619 yr I'm planning to get a new budgie soon. How long do you keep them in a quarantine cage? And what should I look at to see if the budgie is okay and ready to meet the rest? Thanks
February 20, 200619 yr Keep them seperate for 30 - 45 days. In a different room if possible, and wash your hands between handling the birds. At the end of this time, make sure he looks healthy, nice feathers, poos okay, nice and active, and then move the cages into the same room for them to meet. They can then have supervised flying time together.
February 21, 200619 yr same as lin, but i also take new birds to the vets for some tests during quarantine - to be absolutely sure, some illnesses can lay hidden.

Thanks Pixie , I'm busy looking for a good vet (it's not easy to find an avian vet in my city). All the vets I've been to don't like birds (because they fly, etc. ). They are just strange.
February 22, 200619 yr great advice !!! i know, it can be hard to find a good avian vet. mine is an "all pets" vet, but she specializes in birds. she breeds pionus, cockatoos, and greys. so the whole family goes to her! Edited February 22, 200619 yr by BudgieLuv
