Budgies On Domestic Flights (aus)

Hey there

I'm going up north for about 5 weeks in june ths year and instead of leaving my poor little skippy baby here I thought I might take him with me. Can anyone tell me how you go about taking birds on planes?

Its a 2 hour flight so I figured it would be okay

Do you need a special cage/box

Who do you contact

How much does it cost

is it safe?

Its not for a while yet so its not urgent, but any info /advice would be greatly appreciated

You would need to contact the airline you would be traveling with and follow their specifications, each is different. They will require you to use an airline approved carrier, and because he is small he will fit right under your seat. Book early, they usually only allow a certain number of animals on a flight. The cost would vary per airline.

I found a couple of links with some practical advice. I do know that recently Iread a first hand account of someone travelling with their bird, but I can't find it now.

bird times

things to think about

okay

I checked with Quantas and it is 45 dollars to take a bird, he has to go airfreight via australian air express, no animals are allowed in the cabin in australia.

I also have to get a special crate to put skip in to stop him flying around, that container goes in his cage which then goes on the flight, I have just asked dogtainers for a quote on the cost of such a cage
