Sad, So Very Sad

Well, today baby #5 was hatched by my green pair Jackson & Jessie. (My daughter's named them and had no clue what that meant) Anyway after a long time, I noticed that although the 4 other babys were being fed, #5 was not. So, I made the decision to give the baby some water so that it can get the strength to call to Jessie for it's next feeding. Well as you can probably guess, the baby passed away. I am guessing from aspiration. I guess I was just not careful enough in not getting the liquid in the baby's airway. It was so sad. I am only hoping Jessie and Jackson had no clue the baby was there anyway. They do have one more egg which should hatch in a couple more days. Hopefully they will feed that one. I don't want this to happen twice! :(

sorry about your loss and dont be to hard yourself hopefully the next one will be fed by the parents

Sorry to here this...but how did you try to feed it? :(

I just dip my fingur into some milk and let a small drop drop on to the tip of the chicks beak. It will drink it in. You do this four or five times and see the crop change colour. This should give enough energy to the chick to start calling.

Greeny's first chick Vagas wasn't getting feed from the start. I needed to feed her about four times before Greeny got the idea and then she was away.

Well Daz, I should have done what you did. Unfortunately, I had a syringe and I tried to have just one drop come out but when the baby felt the liquid, it opened it's mouth real wide and I think too much went in. I am hoping the next baby the parents will feed, or definitely I will use my finger next time.

Wendy

sorry for your loss :)

I'm very sorry. I hope things go well for the other chicks and the next one if it hatches.
