Need to keep you budgie lean? Or even loose wight but they will not even look at pellets?

Give then Finch seed instead, this is the tip I just from from my vet today for Tootie. It is lower in fat than the budgie mix.

What types of seed is in finch mix?

Nerwen I got the same advice from Danny (Avian Vet).... I put mine on Canary Mix untill i found the budgie mix I am currently using.

It is beeter to keep them lean and on good vegitables than on the mix you get from the supermarket....

The same sort of seeds are in both but the Finch mix ( and I would think the canary one too) doesn't have the hulled oats like the budgie one which is like mars bars to them. Mine eat all of them first before the rest.

I actually have a small container (1kg) of hulled oats that I give a little once a week as a treat...just like millet spray.

I give it twice a week to the breeders but just a small amount. It keeps up their energy.

I know what you mean about the hulled oats! Blinks adores them. :(

thanks for the tips, I notice that when Pretty eats his fresh seed he always picks out the small tan ones (I think they are millet), not sure :).

That is what the oats look like, the tan long ones.

I think that is the best way to go. Treat it like a treat which is healthy in small doses.
