Posted February 10, 200619 yr Hi all, I found this website and i thought it might be useful. Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons ali also for anybody living in the Glasgow & Falkirk area here is an excellent avian vet Lawrie Vet Practice Edited February 10, 200619 yr by Cheeky
February 10, 200619 yr You need to be aware that in London there are very few specilaist Avian vets. As far as I know there are really only 3 - one in Romford, one in East Sheen, and another one further south (not sure where). It is so important to get good diagnosis, and avian expertise is so specialised. Sadly we got a wrong diagnosis from a general vet and didn't see a spcialist vet (who diagnosed correctly), until it was too late (see my post called 'subdued'). :grbud:

You would need to phone them to see if they have an avian vet but at least its a start if you don't know where to look. I'm sorry to hear about your wee one.

We live in Sth London and our vet has a bird specialist that is at the surgery once or twice a week. Not a vast amount of good in an emergency but the surgery does give out her mobile number if they think the case warrants it!!
March 26, 200619 yr I think that site might be a little out of date. I was looking for an avian vet around Norwich, and most of the ones the site said were bird specialists weren't at all when I rang to ask. A couple of them said they never had been, and a couple said they used to have an avian specialist, but no longer. I agree though, it's a handy starting point, as there were a few vets surgeries that I didn't realise existed and weren't listed in the yellow pages. Also, I found one of the most useful things to do was just phone an ordinary vet - they're usually more than happy to help, and can usually point you in the right direction. p.s. I don't suppose anyone is, but if anyone is looking in the Norfolk area for an avian vet, you want to try the vets in North Walsham (Nr. Norwich). It appears to be the only one for at least 20 miles around Norwich. They have an avian and exotics specialist.
September 19, 200717 yr For anyone in the west country, there's a great avian vet in swindon http://www.gwreferrals.com/index.asp The vet you want to see is Neil Forbes. It's a 120 mile round trip for us to take our budiges there from where we live but it's worth it as he knows what he's doing P.s. I hope it's okay to resurrect such an old thread but I thought I'd post in here instead of creating a new topic Edited September 19, 200717 yr by budgies_are_great
