Trip To The Vets

Featured Replies

hey guys, am taking cheeky to the vet this afternoon to get his nails clipped and to get a check up. Should i take him in his cage or in a carry box (with holes!!)?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

ali

Depends on your bird. Mine are quite happy to go in the cage(a small one), and love to see everything speeding by 'Gee Mum, you fly fast' :grbud: Perhaps pop in the cage, and take a cover. If they get frightened, cover them.

thats great thanks. i think he would be less scared in his cage.

make sure you take out any swings that he may perch on and you may even want to put a towel temporarly on the bottom so if he falls off his perch from a turn he will not slip and slid around and I would cover him as Lin said that would make him feel much more secure :grbud:

Let us know about his visit.

hey just an update on cheekys visit to the vet. well it didnt exactly go according to plan. He was supposed to just get his toes trimmed but i mentioned that his poops had been a bit runny. Vet said he might have liver problems but has given him antibiotics just in case he's got an infection.

I have phoned the avian vet and i have got an appointment for wednesday. Hopefully he will be okay with the antibiotics till then. He doesn't seem unwell but as you've all said they can go downhill so quickly.

I'm absolutely devastated!

hugs Cheeky, are they just runny or different colored too? I am glad you got him into the Avian Vet, to make sure. Keep up updated.

There is a lot more water and they are a bit lighter in colour than normal - still quite solid though. sometimes the white bit is seperate from the coloured bit. He is still chirpy and happy although he has been a bit traumatised after his vets visit!!

I'm trying not to get too worried because the vet i saw today wasn't an expert so hopefully he's got it wrong. Thanks for the hug it was much appreciated :)

has he eaten something new? or been stressed out other then the vet? I notice that sometimes Pretty's will be runny if he eat something different or stressed out, then it returns back.

erm, i changed his seed to see if that was causing his smelly habit that some people mentioned could be an allergy or him regurgitating. He has been drinking a lot, and he tends to run round the carpet eating any crumb he can find! we have also been giving him more vegetables and fruit because he hadn't been getting any before.

I have everything crossed for you Cheeky

Do you have an update? My fingers are crossed that it is not serious.
