Posted February 9, 200619 yr okay i was looking at toby's nails/claws and they looked a bit long but i am not to sure, i don't want to cut them incase they are still fine and then i cut the to short. (if that makes sense) so i took some photos but they are a bit blurry as it was hard to do when toby was sitting on the camera half the time. :budgiedance: Thanks
February 9, 200619 yr They look fine to me too. Budgies (birds) claws need to have some length to them, or they'd be constantly falling out of the trees in the wild when ever a good gust of wind rattled the branches. I used to keep teapots as short as possible once over, but I did notice that when they were very short, he didnt have the same confidence OR grip in his perches and ropes etc. So now, I leave them that bit longer, and its better for him.
February 9, 200619 yr I use this as a general rule of thumb: When your bird is standing on a flat surface, the nail should be long enough that the tip of the toe pretty much rests on the surface. If the nail is so long that the toes lift up to the first joint or further, a trim is probably in order. Yours look fine to me.
