Just opened my new box of seed to refill one of Marine and Tootie's seed dishes and the damn seed came out in a clump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Looking at it I found what looks to be eggs all thought it, clumping the seed with like a like spiders web :ausb: SO i tiped that back in the box in hopes to take it back to the shop but now i think I've thrown the docket away :budgiedance: Once the seed had gone some bug was in the food dish an insect thing ICK.

 

So the whole box is now wraped in TWO plastic bags and is outside away from both cages.

 

The brand is Lovitt's in 3kg sizeand I got it from coles in case anyone else uses it. I hope it's only a one off thing. I swapped to this a while back from Trill becuase it has pellets mixed with it. But now I'm planing to go back to trill. Havn't had issues like that from them before.

Nerwen, I get my seed from Brendale Produce. Budgie mix 5kgs for $9.00. You can add to it to suit your birds.

It sounds like seed moths. Disgusting though it is, I've heard you can put the seed in the freezer which will kill off the moths and you can still feed it. Who would want to, I know. (where is that barfing smiley when you need it????) At least the seed was fresh - I don't think those moths will inhabit old seed.

 

I think I would take the seed back even without a receipt and demand a bug-free box. Ugh.

 

I'd give you my supplier but being in the states, shipping would probably be prohibitive. :budgiedance:

I was thinking going and telling them about it so other bird owners don't get the same surprise as me.

Now that is a good buy I might go and stock up a bit on the week end (I have a bit of seed still from the old box thankful)

 

There is a shop near me Pet Stock that has bird seeds I might go and check out thier prices again and see if I like the look of the seed. The had a great clean store and only sell fish live the rest of the place is just feeding and housing for all sorts of animals from bird to horses. (I got my egg and biscuit mix from them)

don't take any more seed from that store. It could all be infected, these things seem to get everywhere so quickly. With seed, as with flour, when you buy it pop it in the fridge until you open it. If there is any weevils in it they go into hibernation

...OH newen have you been to the stockest at the round about up at Caboolture on the eastside of the Bribie overpass. It's behind the Holden Car yard. Jet parade ... or something like that????

 

Dropped in there the other week and it is one to stay away from... Poor budgies didn't look happy and the place is a bit of a mess. It isn't as bad as the one near Karen or the one near the Bunnings at Carseldine...but it could be cleaner... :budgiedance:

I've had those gross moths in a pet shop seed mix and egg and biscuit mix from the bad pet shop before. It's gross!

I know the place I don't even like the front of the place and I know of stories of very sick dogs from that place. No the one I'm meaning is near the showgrounds. Strathvale Court.

I had that happen to me with a 20 kg bag of seed once - since it had been 2 weeks since I bought it I'd long got rid of the docket. I don't buy my seed from them anymore!

 

You can get a 10kg bag of Trill from Big W for roughly $15.

Ohh Big W never thought of them the biggest woolies goes to it 2 kgs.

Karen you didn't get that seed from that produce place off Brisbane St???

 

I've Been there ....won't go there again either......

 

Theres a place near me (Carseldine) that is really bad... I might try and take some photos on the mobile and show you guys what a bad place looks like.
