Fatty Tumor With Wound

HI,

MY BUDGERIGAR HAS DEVELOPED A FATTY TUMOR IN ITS ABDOMEN DEFINITELY NOT INTERFERING WITH ITS DAILY ACTIVITIES OR BEHAVIOR, IT IS AS LIVELY TALKATIVE AND ACTIVE AS EVER. HOWEVER, THE TUMOR HAS DEVELOPED A CIRCULAR CRATER SHAPED DEEP WOUND, THAT WONT CLOSE AND IS GROWING LARGER. SURPRISINGLY THE TUMOR IS GROWING SMALLER AS IF THE WOUND IS DRAINING THE CONTENTS OF THE LUMP. i DO DESINFECT IT EACH DAY BOTH USING BATICONE AND AN ANTIBIOTIC CREAM MY VET ADVISED. YET I ADMINISTER THE CREAM ONLY TO THE EDGES OF THE WOUND AND NOT THE INSIDE OF THE CRATER SO TO NOT HUMIDIFY THE WOUND AND PREVENT IT FROM CLOTTING. ANYWAY IT WORRIES ME THAT IT WONT HEAL.

I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY RECCOMENDATION ON YOUR PART FOR MEDICATION OR TREATMENT BOTH FOR THE WOUND AND FOR THE TUMOR.

hi and welcome to the forums. please take caps lock off, as typing in caps is shouting in the internet world :)

No he is a general vet, Its difficult to find an avian vet here, but I think I have found one specialized in birds and will take my budgie Cancan tomorrow. I have been taking him periodically every 3 days a week to my usual vet, however Turkey is not specialized in birds, less budgies so I think he is doing his best to not let my little worsen. If you have any idea of any web sites where I may order medication related to our problem Id appreciate it. Surfing through the internet I havent found any resource that gives info on fatty tumors with wounds and what they signify: good, bad. cancerous....? nothing whatsoever! Thanks anyway

is it actually a tumour or is it a cyst? it sounds like it might be a cyst and the fluid from it is somehow draining? could your budgie be plucking it, if he is doing that he may be in some distress from it. unless you actually know what it is and why it is changing it is going to be almost impossible to medicate him yourself. you really need to see an avian vet to get the best treatment.

its difficult to picture what it looks like - can you post a picture at all? it certainly sounds very serious with your description.

Because you have such issues with finding an avian vet, have you researched a lab that you can send a swab to for a diagnosis? Maybe a vet near you can do that for you, if not, find a lab that will do it for you. they usually give good instructions on how to get the sample

did you take him to the avian vet as planned? That looks very serious.
